NetBox 4K: Freeview Play smart TV box + Streaming in Ultra HD + Extra Free Channels = all in one place

Looking for an easy to set up and use streaming set top box for my parents that incorporates Freeview and gives a wide range of streaming apps and channels and customer support, my extensive research led me to the Netgem box - and I was not disappointed! The box includes Freeview Play with it's apps and loads more streaming apps and free channels including Netflix and Prime Video. It was easy to plug in their aerial in the back and auto-tune all the Freeview channels. Conveniently, via the home screen, there are rails containing recommended individual videos and channels that means you don't need to go searching if you don't want to. It works with all broadband services. My parents have Sky broadband, but this is more cost-effective for them than having Sky Q or Sky Stream. Through the box, my Dad is getting Sky Sports through the NOW TV app. Although more expensive than Fire TV or Roku, for my parents this was the right choice as everything is in one place - from Freeview to all the best streaming apps. There's even a slot at the back to plug in a USB stick so they can record programmes. I'm going to set that up next time I'm over! Btw, I ordered this on Saturday evening. It arrived the following morning at 10am. Great service!

The user interface is sleek, intuitive, and easy to navigate, making it a joy to explore the content available. I really appreciate the range of streaming services, including popular platforms like Amazon Prime Video, as well as the free channels. I like that all my content is at the same place and that I don't have to switch between devices or applications. The recommendation engine is good too. It gaved me suggestions that align with my interests. I have discovered little gems Picture and sound quality are great. The visuals are crisp, vibrant, and immersive. I am still discovering the netgem TV app but I quite like the idea to watch content across multiple devices, like my iphone or my ipad and keep watching my serie wherever I go. In conclusion, I would recommend this box if you are looking for an intuitive interface, vast content library, intelligent recommendations, top-notch picture and sound quality, and versatile device compatibility.

It is listed as having Netflix preinstalled but in fact Amazon have blocked it so there is no way you can get. This makes it useless for us, which is a shame because it's straight forward to set up and use.

I found the box really easy to set up and I am useless with these things. I have found some great channels to watch documentaries and films.

I have been using Netgem TV for over a year now and I am extremely satisfied with the service I've received. The box is tiny and tucks discretely on my TV cabinet. It works brilliantly over WiFi so I didn't have to run wires from my router and mess up my skirting boards. It also means I can move it around to different rooms very easily. It works with 4K so the channels are always displayed in the best quality on my 4K TV. I can find all my usual Freeview TV channels, plus tons more (I think over 100) which is great for random channel surfing. On top of that you can find apps like Amazon Prime in the app section - and they display a selection of movies and shows from the apps so you don't have to keep dipping in and out of apps trying to find something to watch. I found that really useful. I also love the Netgem TV mobile app too. I use it to cast onto my TV in my bedroom, but it's also a virtual remote, and a TV guide too. Given that it's a one off purchase it's proved absolutely fantastic value for money.

Doesn't rewind live TVDoesn't work. Not all channels properly received, some software vulnerability issues, some channels do not record. Schedule recording is buggy and you will hate the only record while watching same channel. Good picture and sound, Freeview play works WiFi works well. No web browser, no app store for new apps. Is not a fake or low value product, at a low price compared to overmarketed Turkish STB brand (with obvious faults unrepaired) sold by most UK retailers, this is a better product than some STB units with HD faults and poor signal processing.

I’m a believer in you get what you pay for. Side by side I had this Item & the Manhattan T3-R in my basket.. but there was a price difference of +£40 for the Manhattan.. but it has a 500gb HDD. I have recently upgraded to a 2021 Sony Google Bravia & 600w sound bar system with rear speakers… only to find out the main catch up players inc BBC iPlayer are not available (presumably a licensing issue with Sony/Google).. hence my need for an external player. I also discovered the new tv had no live tv pause function.. unlike my older smart LG which had it all. I had to keep the Mrs happy by investing further in a 4k box which can pause tv & play catch-up apps. Anyway, negatives of this box: shocking sound quality (connected via HDMI ARC with a high speed cable). Had to double the volume to get anything remotely acceptable but still dull & flat. I Tinkered with ALL settings on both the Tv & This box, but it has very limited picture & sound settings. Live pause - so slow to pause. It tells you it is enabling time shift. Manhattan box & my old LG Tv pause instantly. The picture quality is ok on this box.. however it defaults to HD 1080p progressive 60hz. Trying to swap to 4k 60hz reduces saturation & colours faded. Not good on a Sony Bravia where the colours are so much better than my LG. More cons: Remote feels cheap & lightweight. No aerial loop so you’d need to buy a splitter & extra cable to still have a feed in to the tv default signal… half hour trip to Screwfix & money wasted. Same for ordering a new memory stick. I bought & Manhattan T3-R, I plugged it in & instantly I was amazed at both sound & picture quality.. plus as a recognised brand my Sony Tv allowed me to use my remote to control it all. Worth the extra money. Lesson learned. Pros: Nothing much, but the UI is as good as any.
