Is this commode useful for someone who doesn't have strength in there arms to push themselves up from a sitting position and doesn't have strength in

They have to have the ability to at list reach back and hold the railings. Once you have adjusted the seat according to their weight, the hydraulics will ease them down and they need to be able to push the level which does not require much. My mother could not reach back. Other wise it would have worked. Also it is wide so your toilet must be free from the wall at least 3 feet. It also comes with a bowl to use as a free standing bedside commode . Make sure of these things because I could not return it. And you also have to assemble it.

What is the measurement between the inside of the handles? What is the height of the top of the seat at the lowest position? My 220 lb aunt is 4'9".

There is a distance of 17.5" between the handles.My lift is set at the highest notch and the top of the seat is 23" from the floor. I am 5'1" tall, 115 lbs. There are 6 notches to set the height lower than that, and by measuring with tape measure, you should be able to have the top of the seat approx. 17" from the floor. The toilet seats in my house measure 16.5" and 17.5" from the floor.Something that was not included in the description of this Lift: The seat lifts from the back of the device after you press the release lever on the right side of the seat -- then you slide forward to get up. I had mine set for my weight range and the seat came up so quickly it could have tossed me forward had I not had someone there to catch me. (I am a wheelchair user and had someone help me "practice" before trying it on my own.) I had expected a slow rise rather than being thrust forward and up. You may want to set the weight range for less than your aunt's weight and then rehearse with her before she tries it alone.
