I was legit scammed. Inside the commander deck box there was a bundle of taped together pokemon bulk cards, and the wrapper of a collector sample pack with pokemon energy cards.

If you’ve ever wanted to dip your toes into the world of blue-black control in Magic: The Gathering, Counter Intelligence is a surprisingly solid place to start. It’s one of those preconstructed decks that won’t blow the socks off competitive tables, but it’s fun, consistent, and teaches important gameplay fundamentals—counterspells, card draw, and value creatures. Pros: Ready to play out of the box: You can sleeve it up and start playing right away—no extra cards needed to enjoy casual games. Good introduction to control playstyle: It teaches patience, timing, and hand management. You’ll learn when to hold up mana, when to draw cards, and when to deploy threats. Solid synergy: The deck’s mix of counters, removal, and evasive threats feels cohesive. Many cards feed into the “control until you win” plan. Cons: Slow against aggressive decks: Without early blockers or efficient sweepers, fast red or green decks can run you over before you stabilize. Limited long-term power: Against tuned or modernized decks, you’ll quickly feel the lack of high-impact finishers and flexible answers. Upgrade required for serious play: Cards like Drowned Catacomb, Mystical Dispute, or stronger win conditions can make this deck shine. Verdict: If you’re new to Magic and curious about blue-black strategies—or you just want a fun, fair control deck for kitchen table games—Counter Intelligence is well worth it. With a few strategic upgrades, it can even hold its own in more competitive casual pods. Final score: 4/5 – Great fun, teaches valuable skills, but not built for the highest tiers without investment.
