First impression is positive
I need a sofa or loveseat for my finished basement. The problem with one-piece couch is that it is heavy and bulky, and not easy or possible to move down the staircase. Came across this sofa by accident, and was drawn immediately by its modular design, which could potential make it easier to move around. So placed the order, and the item arrived on time. It came in a big cardboard box. Upon unpacking, the three seat backs are separate in three pieces, so are the two side supports. They are light weight and super easy to move. The seat bottom with the reclining mechanism is in one piece, and is estimated at about 80 lbs. It is heavy, but without the seatbacks, the dimension is in such a shape that it is fairly easy to slide down the staircase to the basement. I was able to do the whole moving by myself, without scratching the walls. Once the seat bottom is in place, the three seatbacks are just slid into the frames, and the seat supports are slid into the outer seatbacks. Overall assembly time takes about 30min (measuring the dimension, dry run, and the actual moving of the seat bottom takes about 20min). Thumbs up to the modular design! Build quality and comfort is OK. It is bonded leather, not real one, but for the purpose in the basement, it is perfect. The seat depth is a bit shallow for me, but cushion is great. The dual recliners work well, and feel sturdy. Will update after a period of usage. Now a slightly not so positive point for the delivery experience. Amazon provided an estimated timeframe for delivery - in my case a 3-hr window on a given day. The tracking info showed the progress. However, the delivery company did not call beforehand, as I experienced previously, typically a day before and some lead time on the day of delivery, and just showed up at my door. They (two grown-up men) left the gigantic 150-lb box upright at my front door, and when asked whether they could just move it by a couple of more feet past my front door and into the foyer, they refused and referred to the delivery agreement, which is by the door but not into the door. I ended up spending 15 min to pull the big box inside my house by myself. While a policy is a policy, I can't help wondering why such a small additional piece of customer service would be rendered; and what if I were not physically fit enough to finish the job that two grown-up men could have done in 2 minutes.

Very comfortable, but pet owners beware. Material didn't hold up over time.
Edit, nearly 10 years after purchase: My 4-star doesn't change a lot because after 10 years, I still own these and use them. Mechanically and structurally, they have held up fine. They are in perfect working condition in that regard. I'll admit they were somewhat lightly used, but for what I paid, I'm a bit surprised they lasted this long. That said, they made the trip to my barn today for seating out there. The initial picture I posted with the little puncture marks was just the beginning of the end. Once the material was compromised, it went downhill very, very quickly. I'll add some pictures of the horror, for reference. We've had couch covers on these things for many years, which at least allowed them to be presentable inside the house. Every time we'd take the covers off to wash them, we'd have to sweep up literal piles of black flakes of "leather" that just continued to rub off. Hopefully they have changed the material up to a be more durable since I purchased this, but I still see it here under the same part number, so I wanted to update... _________________ Original 2015 review: We were extremely hesitant to buy furniture online without the opportunity to sit on it first to see how comfortable it is. But after looking around locally and online, we just couldn't find anything comparable to this in a similar price range. So we took the chance and ordered this and the love seat, and I'm glad to say it's as comfortable as advertised. We've owned these for 6 months and I have nothing but good things to say about how comfortable and how nice the set looks. The material feels good and they recline just perfectly. Don't let the fact that you can't sit on it before buying deter you. The only reason I can't give this 5 stars is because the material is definitely a bit thin. We have cats that are declawed (front only) and didn't anticipate any issues. They are older, more mellow kitties but they have still managed to tear this furniture up pretty badly in a short amount of time. I have attached a picture, hopefully decent enough quality to make out the damage. I think these are perfect for folks without pets (or ones disciplined enough to stay down), but if you have pets, think really hard about investing in something to cover this when you aren't sitting on it. The material tears quite easily.

Best couch purchase EVER!!
I was really skeptical in purchasing this sofa set online for so much $$ without actually being able to sit in and get the feel ( i got the love seat and sofa). I am so glad i got this, it took me about 15 mins to put together, YES its that simple. The only thing you have to assemble is slide the back rests onto each. They delivered quicker than the estimated date and bought the package into my home, it was 2 ppl that unloaded it off a semi truck and carried it all the way into my living room and placed the boxes on my floor. I was really impressed with the packaging as well, the boxes were huge but will fit through a normal door. The sofa material (i think its bonded leather) is not safe if you have cats, I learned the hard way as my cat did leave a little scratch as soon as i put it together (now he stays in the room when im not at home). There was one small scuff mark that i noticed after putting it together, but it was no big deal to me. It looks so classy and the recliners work great and are so comfortable to lie in. I am 5"11 and even though i have to fold my legs a little when reclined its is super comfy (your legs will dangle at the end of the foot recline) It reclines all the way almost lying position without taking much space behind the couch and wall. Seems really durable and well built. Couches can be moved around without worrying about scratching the floor. Highly Recommend this Homelegance Double Reclining Sofa, Black Bonded Leather

Took a chance buying a piece of furniture like this without being able to sit on it
Took a chance buying a piece of furniture like this without being able to sit on it, mainly because of the mostly positive reviews here, and regret I did. It is ok quality for the price, but not comfortable in my opinion. I am 6'2" tall, and while reclining half of my legs hang over the end of the footrest. The pillow area that supports your head is not as comfortable as I would've liked, when my head is fully resting on it I am looking at the ceiling...not ideal for watching TV. As others said, no where near as "fluffy/tufted" as the photo, not uncomfortable but not as plush and comfortable as you are probably used to. I regretted the purchase two minutes after the first time I sat in it. Too much of a hassle to return though, so I gave it to my son for his first apartment. Back to my old, worn black leather reclining loveseat, which is MUCH more comfortable than this one.

Surprisingly pretty good!
This is a great value. It is bonded leather, so just keep that in mind when you purchase. Don't expect it to hold up to extreme wear and tear but it seems reasonably comfortable so far. I've only had it just for today though so I'll give it several months, then post more. Mine didn't come with any of the problems that others had. No screws popping out of the foot rest, no issues with the size or anything like that. It comes in a VERY large box. Be prepared to take stuff our of the box to get it in your door. I have a big door and still I had to do that. The undercarriage looked to be made of 100% metal, which is something that is attractive to me. It hasn't even been a day yet but I'm very comfortable and happy with this purchase. EDIT: I've had this now for several months. I've sat primarily in one spot more than others and when you look at the couch, there's no evidence of this at all in terms of wear and tear. I've had in excess of 500lbs of load in terms of heavy people sitting on it, and I've made out on it more times than I can count. It's REALLY great for snuggling if you like that kind of thing. Also, all of the mechanical parts have seemed to hold together. I love that it is super easy to clean as well. I looked at this as a 3-year couch and I suspect that it will easily meet my expectations in that regard (although obviously that would need follow-up for confirmation).

LEATHER DOUBLE RECLINER COUCH GOOD SO FAR. Updated.
Only used about a month. So far worth the price. I am 5-9 and it fits me comfortably. It doesn't have an arm to retract the foot rest and you have to push it back with your feet which is good for the tummy muscles. It is difficult to tell which parts are leather or not. Looks good. Time will tell about the quality, will need to update someday. Many of the reviews fault the delivery and my experience is: they called to confirm the delivery. Delivered on day and time frame planned. Delivery man, working alone, was pleasant and helpful in that I got him to bring it into my living room (with my help). He said that they usually leave it at your porch if it is on the first floor, but they are only contracted to leave it at the curb. Edit: The Leather (?) is about one thousandth of an inch thick. I can't see how it lasted just short of three years. It is bonded to some other material and it has started to peel off in places used a lot. I wouldn't buy another one. However I don't know how to tell if a replacement would be any better, especially for under $550.00. It is comfortable to use for another year or more. Update 11/22/2019.The leather was fairly much shot at four years. I don't plan on buying again, however, the mechanism is still excellent and I moved to using the left side from the right maybe 18 months ago and the left side still looks good. Most of the damage is on the right side and my dog has taken to that spot. Maybe the dog is harder on it than I was. How long should an inexpensive leather sofa last anyway? I really don't know.

Killing me softly
Can't say enough good things about this couch. I moved into a new place and was couch-shopping both locally and on the internet. I found a couple of things that were less expensive than this one but I kept gravitating toward this couch because I was willing to pay a bit more for an item with moving parts in order to ensure better quality. I am extremely pleased with the choice I made. The faux leather is of good quality, the color is truly espresso, and assembly took all of 2 minutes without any tools. The back comes in 5 different pieces. Three are back rests as you can see in the picture of the product, and two are the vertical rests that flank the left and right back cushion. All of the back cushions slide into either a prong protruding from the sofa seat and the vertical parts slide into the cushions. It is a bit heavy and I had to drag it on the carpet but it wasn't too bad. If you have wood floors it'll be even easier to drag it. Both outer seats recline almost 180 degrees. You can easily lie down. And the reclining mechanism feels sturdy and solidly built. If you are very tall (I'm a bit under 5 9") you may think that the sofa isn't big enough in its depth. But it is extremely comfortable and I spent more time on my butt this weekend than I would have liked. Shipping was a bit slow but now that I have the sofa at home, I'm willing to forgive and forget about slow shipping. The driver was courteous and brought the entire box (only one box) on a dolley inside my front door into the living room. That was nice. The box fit through a conventional 36" doorway. If you are on the fence about this sofa, GO FOR IT! You won't regret it.

What a POS...Do NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
We received this sofa in June, and it is now October. The seats do not have enough support, and the two recliner cushions are bowed from people sitting in them. It is now very uncomfortable to lie down on as the center cushion is now higher than the ends. We recently had new carpet installed, and had to remove the backs to move it into the next room. When we picked it up to move it, two screws and washers fell off from underneath. We had not flipped it over yet to figure out where they fit, and in moving it back into the living room, TWO MORE SCREWS FELL OUT!!! I have a feeling in the next few months we will be looking for a new sofa. I wouldn't waste your money on this item. Original Post in June: Delivery date was estimated between the 7th and 10th of July. On Friday the 10th I received a call to set up a delivery time for the following Monday. So it was late, but not excessively so. The sofa arrived on a tractor trailer which he had to park on the side street. One delivery man was sent. He unloaded the sofa on a dolly, then walked it the couple of hundred feet to the house. As he got to the porch the box slid sideways off the dolly, breaking two of our solar lights. He got it back on the dolly but didn't have the strength to pull it one step up onto the porch. I had to suggest he just lay the dolly down and slide the sofa off. He was very friendly but the company that delivered needs to think more about the end results and less about pinching pennies by only sending one person to do the work of two. Besides that, we are now out the extra money to replace the solar lights. The sofa itself was simple to put together, is comfortable to sit on, and I really like the fact that the seat slides forward when you fully recline. This allows the sofa to be close to the wall without hitting it. My husband and I both have lower back issues and the sofa provides good lumbar support. I will amend this post later, once we have used the sofa for a few months.
