Reading the reviews, Has this been improved upon so it doesn't break easily?

NO!, NO!, and NO!! Manufacturer hasn't improved product - use it with gingerly.....more it breaks, the more they sell!

How far apart do you make the holes until you create another?

It all depends on how compacted your soil is or how much drainage you're looking for. I'd say for heavy compacting or to increase drainage, that if you do every 8-12 inches and offset that would work. You're basically doing one punch, then going 4-6" and moving over and punching the middle, then going ahead another 4-6" in the same line as the first, then repeating over and over for eternity.

How do you clean out the plugs when they get stuck in the tiubes?

If that happens, a small stick or a screwdriver can be used to clear the plugs. For what its worth, if you find that happening a lot, your soil is probably either too moist or too dry.

Can it last more than 3 years in medium size lawn?

As long as you use it correctly, and most importantly only after a HEAVY RAIN OR WATERING YOUR GRASS FOR MORE THAN 3 HOURS.

Good in the Carolina clay

Used this right after a good rain. It’s a great workout. The design of the tubes prevented a lot of clogging I experienced with my other aerator. It isn’t perfect but it got the job done.

Gets stuck with compacted soil

This tool is used to aerate and help with compaction. My soil is compacted, so it gets clogged almost instantly. Still works, but much harder to use.

Mismatched assembly holes - required modification

Once I got it together this thing is fine and seems sturdy enough, but I had to grind away some of the main body because the screw holes to hold the pieces together simply do not line up. At first we thought we had things upside down and tried to flip it, but it made things worse. What should have taken 5 minutes to assemble took about an hour - thought much of that time was trying to make it work the "correct" way. If you have the same issue, try flipping the main body first, but if it doesn't fit then immediately start grinding the side that fits better. I didn't have any power tools so dragged it across concrete - it's difficult but doable.

Cheapest Item I’ve Ever Bought

I’ve bought a lot of cheap stuff on Amazon, but this one takes the cake. Welds snapped within the first five minutes of using. AVOID.
