Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Amazing, A Must for Anyone Wanting to Build Up Their Strength - This book is simply amazing for anyone looking to build up strength and muscle. It may not be the best for beginners as some of the terminology and the exercises provided can be fairly advanced. However, for the people with a good amount of background knowledge this book is a must. The illustrations are incredible and shows the areas of the body each exercise works and the explanations to the exercises are very concise and clear. It has some very useful programs at the back, which I'm going to try out in the upcoming weeks. In addition it's worth getting the "Strength Training Anatomy" book in conjunction both work extremely well together and same author. Review: As good as the first - I have the first version of Delavier's Strength Training Anatomy book, which is an excellent reference if you are into exercise of any kind. I decided to get the second version and it is just as informative as the original. As with the first book, I especially like the detailed illustrations of the muscles and bones in relation to the exercises. I understand from many people who have these books that the illustrations are one of the key reasons for getting it. Some of the write-ups are a bit technical, but still, not too difficult to understand, with pros and cons of using different methods (e.g. free weights, resistance machines and your own body weight) for exercising different muscles. It would be great if there was an electronic version of Delavier's books for tablets, as this would be perfect for fitness professionals or for the journey to/from the gym. I recommend this book whether you exercise seriously or for fun, and it is a very helpful guide if you are studying in any aspect of fitness.

Great book
I bought all 3 books of Frederic Delavier (STA, STA W, STA W2) so that i didnt miss any important info as im a beginner in terms of gym use and want to get the ideal body I have quickly learnt the best methods of doing the exercise from these books and it shows in depth which muscle is being worked. This has been a bonus for me as i got the understanding to do the correct technique and know exactly what muscle is being worked. Im currently a gym member so when am working out not only do i perform my exercises better, i see other people making the same mistakes which i made. Overall Great book and guide, shame that it is geared for using rubber bands and working out at home but still is easy enough to apply to the commercial gym environment and a good start for any beginner.

Critic
Really good book. Really good detail, and really emphasizes things to look out for and avoid, recovery and some of the pitfalls within training. If you enjoy training to quite a high degree or want to learn more then this is a really good book about not just training the muscles but understanding how they work, their relations and engery systems and their effect on the body.

Excellent!
I purchased this book, having previously purchased other books by the author (as well as far too many other 'fitness' books!). This book is really excellent! It focuses on strength training ie working in the gym and using barbells/dumbells and cable machines. It does three things for me - 1. It compares the relative advantages and disadvantages of the three 'weights' above. 2. It shows how different parts of muscles can be better served by different exercises. 3. It very thoughtfully examines the pluses and minuses of different exercises especially with regard to both injury risk and the very different body shapes and genetics that we all have. This book is probably not for the complete novice, but if you have been going to the gym for a couple of years and regularly use free weights, then you might find it very, very useful.

Fantastic book!
Found this book invaluable for arranging my home workouts, very easy to follow with superb diagrams. There is so much information in this book I’ve read it over a few times. The introductory sections and chapters on shoulders and back are exceptional. A focus on performing exercises safely is also continued throughout. I bought part 1 of this series which focuses on workouts using dumbbells and bands only and is aimed at beginners. This book includes exercises using machines like the bench press and cables. Highly recommend it!

With a little knowledge and application this book is brilliant
Great explanations of how to target specific muscles and good tips and tricks for growth or strength. I created a training regime using some of the guidelines in the book, incorporating some of the more specific stuff, like where to place ones feet while squatting to hit different parts of the quads, and which exercises hit the lateral head of the triceps more than the others. Great reference book for tweaking my training as to my goals. If you tend to know your way around a gym but want to get into the nitty gritty to get the very best from your training, I cannot recommend this book enough.

Gold!!!!
The information is really very good. I have exercised on many occasions lasting up to 6 weeks, but finding I burn myself out. After reading this I now realize the training routine I've been given at the gym by the trainers is not good and the cause of my failure. This book is worth its weight in gold in my opinion.

Consigliatissimo.

I was a competitive athlete for most of my youth but have never had any one-on-one coaching or training as far as the gym. This book gives thorough, detailed explanations along with anatomy descriptions and little tidbits about anatomical differences that may impact certain exercises, or results. I've learned a LOT from it and have definitely taken my workouts up a notch (...or two!). Absolutely recommend.

Highly recomend for anyone with a moderate knowledge of the principles of exercise, recovery and muscle growth. Great information and anatomically correct diagrams to assist in understanding. Having seen a copy in the university library I think there is no bigger recommendation than this
