Has anyone tried a Fylde touchstone in this?

My answer is no, but it works fine with my Northfield 'Big Mon' f style. It's an excellent case and one I use whenever I travel to the US by plane.

I have two questions. Are A-styles in there nice and snug? And how well padded is the opening?

I have an F style in mine so cannot answer your question fully. The interior is shaped for an F style so you'd have gaps at certain points. The cut out shape at its widest point is 27cm and from end to heel is 37 cm. I always use this case when I travel by plane and would recommend it highly. It's well made and I feel confident that my Nortfield Big Mon is safe and sound. Every player I've encountered with this case has been equally impressed. Personally I would wait for a response from an A style owner.

Will the apx case fit an apx700ii-12 (i.e. 12 string)?

Fits my 12 string (just) , snug and has transported well, but if yours is outsize it won't - I also have a legacy Hofner Western 12 which wouldn't go near it!
