I have tried the 'electric impulse' types and they are better than nothing but don't really do the job
I received the MemoryStar neck massager today and have written this review having used it once, but I can't imagine my view is going to change with time. I suffer a lot with neck tension which builds up over time and I have used electric Homedics rotating shoulder and back massagers (I have one on my seat in my study when I am working). I'm not really a homeopathic type person, but I do believe a lot of people reach straight for a pill or painkiller when actually massage is what is needed to get the muscles out of spasm and back to proper function which then allows your skeleton to work properly. Unfortunately I don't get much time to get to a masseur and therefore I have looked around for a while for a decent neck massager. I have tried the 'electric impulse' types and they are better than nothing but don't really do the job. I liked the look of this - the photos on Amazon, the form and design of it looked good, and well, it's hard to say this without re-enforcing stereotypes, but it's German and therefore you have a pretty good chance it's going to be well-made. Before the device even arrived I had an e-mail from the manufacturers hoping that I would enjoy their product and asking me to be honest in my review so here I go: On the plus sides: The package was well-boxed and secure but easy to get open - a minor thing but I have got so fed up sometimes having to always resort to box-cutters/Stanley knifes to get into items sent via Amazon so it was a nice surprise to be able to open it quickly. The massager is made of a tough and durable material on the outside like a wipe-clean surface, and on the inside a mesh like that which you find on the back of some ruck-sacks which I assume is to help with airflow. Its comfortable and sits on your shoulders with the 'arms' wrapping around you, rather like your partner giving you a hug from behind. If you hold on to the 'arms' you can apply more or less pressure to the massaging balls which are two sets of three rotating balls with a span of about one hands size for each pair of three. This is important because it matches closely the size of a masseurs hands working on your neck. There is an emergency stop/start button and when you press stop it stops instantly. There is a 'reverse rotation' button which when you press it, stops the rotation immediately, pauses for about 1/2 a second then rotates in the opposite direction, and there is a heat button which lights up the rotating balls. In terms of the quality of the massage it gives, I am very happy with it. I like a very deep massage as I have a pretty solid neck sometimes and I wondered in advance if this would be able to apply enough pressure, but by pulling gently on the arms you can increase the pressure accordingly. I really like this product. There is a very thoughtful 12v cigarette lighter plug for use in the car and the only downside right now is that it comes with a pre-moulded German plug, but you can buy and adapter for a couple of pounds on Amazon (see: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00B9TCUL8 ). The manufacturers were very up front about telling me this in advance of the delivery and said that in the next couple of months they will be able to provide UK plug fitted for UK export. So in summary, I thoroughly recommend the product and the service of the company.

Lovely sturdy machine with potential for further improvement, however broke down after a week
I received my MemoryStar massager, and liked the product immediately. It has, however, limited adjustment options, and the nodes of the massager are rather large and far apart, so this massager might feel strong and uncomfortable to smaller users. It's also a bit clumsy to use, with the wire and the hand flaps flapping about. I'd like to have one where you can adjust the size and feel of the massager, and remove the hand flaps if you don't need the (using it as a pillow). I'd also like a range of similar massagers, perhaps with different sizes, massage functions, adjustments and strengths. I'd like to be able to direct the pressure more towards the top of my neck without awkwardly holding the massager with my hands. It'd also be great if it was rechargeable. While I liked the machine (haven't found one so good anywhere else yet), I had bad luck with it: after one week of use, the buttons started malfunctioning and the heating lights flashing, then the 'motor' started making a lot of scratchy/clanky noise. I can't even get the massager on anymore, the buttons do nothing. I am disappointed that the massager failed so quickly in regular, smart use. I have just contacted the seller to request for a refund or replacement. What a pity.

MemoryStar Mg500
Well I do not usually do this sort of thing , unless completely necessary , I first brought a Health plus massager for about same price ,for my dad , great quality no complaints . But I wanted 1 for my self and decided to go for a German 1 because of German engineering and the reviews were good . This is what I received . The model no is yo-9199 instructions so small in English and very little the box and all wording is Asian , to me this is not a German product . Looks like it's made in Taiwan , the build quality is poor very poor compared to the health plus 1 , add to this as soon as I plugged it in to try it nothing did not work so sent it back , will not be buying another 1 of these and this is not German

Decent but unreliable
It is a decent product when it is working. However, despite minimal usage, one of the plastic massage heads within the product broke. Two days later the massage head on the other side broke too. I have contacted the manufacturer on a few occasions, but they have failed to respond. Very disappointing: terrible service and a product which is not suitably robust.

I got this recently and wondered how good it would be
I got this recently and wondered how good it would be. I've had a traditional "shoulder massager" before which is essentially like a glorified back scratcher with a motor in the head. I've found that with these you would struggle to apply a decent amount of pressure. The MemoryStar neck massager however doesn't suffer in the same sort of way. It's not about vibration, it's about moving rollers. Each side of the unit has 4 differently sized circular heads that press into your shoulder. It's very easy to apply pressure using the straps and you can easily apply too much pressure if you're not careful. I haven't used it frequently yet but I do find it relaxing with mild pressure, although I find the heat turns off a little too soon. As others have reviewed, the power cable is very short (although does now come with a UK plug). I did think I'd give it a try in the car once on a journey (passenger seat obviously!) but after stopping and starting the car again the 12V cable for a car stopped working which is a shame. I've not had any issues with the mains charger fortunately.

So far : totally excellent
What can i say; within 5 minutes of opening it and trying it out i knew i wasn't going to regret this. It's great. I've just got this so here's my assessment: I can confirm the supplier is a German Co and they provide a 3-pin UK adaptor (upon request ??). The item was sent via DHL & arrived in 2 days. The item is guaranteed for 2 years, though i'm glad i solicited that confirmation in writing via Amazon email beforehand as there's nothing in the documentation enclosed which indicates the term of guarantee. Odd as the promise of the 2 year guarantee is what finally swung me in favour of this item over the alternatives out there. The device is very well made, very simple to operate (3 buttons) and really does do the kind of rolling massage neck and shoulders need. It's uncannily like a human hand at times. One of the reasons i went for this model is the hand-holding tags were substantial and i wont regret this. This item works well some pressure is applied either by leaning back against a surface &/or by pulling down with the hand-tags. Additionally by moving / rolling the part of the body being massaged at the same time. The massage is really for getting in there, loosening up and moving tension. I don;t find the 15 minute cut-out a problem. I find just 5 minutes so impacting it feels like 10 minutes and leaves me satisfied! The instruction manual (very basic) does have English instructions but contains no indication of initial set up (just plug in and use) or what's under the zip which lines the length of the item. (Curious but left it alone.). It emits a slow humming noise, but nothing to garish (use with ear plugs if you really mind.) The only thing which might bug people is the short length flex which would require a good extension lead if you were to try out all the different variations of position shown in the advertising on youtube. The flex length supplied suggests suitability for in-car use not home use. However an issue easily over come. Having established the item is very well made (to german standards) and has a 2 year gaurantee; i would say that compared to the similar hammering type massagers out there , i cannot see how hammering can come even close to the level of muscle movement this product is capable of. The only other competition out there i found of worth was the Brurer (Argos : Brurer) but it had much less substantial hand-straps yet was the same price. In terms of cost: i suffer from life long tension held in the neck and shoulders region so three 4 minutes massages a day will be great tension release education for my muscles. You could easily pay ยฃ50 for a half hour massage !

Wonderful but kept breaking
Two things to say about this product, one good and one bad - it's the best, most powerful and wonderful massager I've ever seen. Wonderful for my spinal condition. I've owned two. One lasted a year and then broke (I got a refund) and it's replacement has just broken after 2 years (4 days outside of it's 2-year warranty). Very frustrating. I didn't use it more than about once a week and didn't abuse it. A real shame.

Breaks very quickly
After a few uses, the insides of this start twisting around, so you have to open up the zip and reposition all the insides (held with velcro) so that the massage heads don't roll into the thicker fabric at the back of the massager. Then, after a few months light use, the whole thing is broken. Screws started coming undone from the massage head motor (tightened them and came loose again) and now one of the fragile clear plastic massage heads has broken off rendering the machine useless and dangerous. Very annoyed as this was an expensive purchase. Such devices need to be far more robust, and not have flimsy rotating massage head.
