Miraculous
I have 2 Penguin 350 filters on my 75 gallon aquarium - the newer one is 2-1/2 years old. Over time the older one became noisier, but it happened so gradually that it was barely noticeable. It rattled a bit, but was tolerable. Then a couple nights ago it sounded like it was about to self destruct. After reading the reviews I decided to give it a try. OMG 😳. I installed it and turned the filter back on. INSTANT AND TOTAL SILENT OPERATION. I’m going to order another one for future use in the other filter. DO NOT buy a new filter. Buy a new impeller.

How to fix your old one
If you are hearing a lot of rattling or rumbling noise from the filter, or it is just loud and the loud is not a water sound, its probably a worn out rod. What happens is the impeller spins millions of revolutions over time and wears out the stainless steel rod. You would notice that there is some play in between the hole of the impeller and the shaft. There should be no play. If you have a magnifying glass of a jewelers loop you would be able to see the rod getting thinner the closer it is to the impeller. You can replace that rod for a lot less than buying a new one. Here's what you need to do. 1. Get some needle nose plyers and pinch the rod just below the end cap, if the end cap is at 12:00, have the end of the plyers at 4:00, and then pivot the plyers up to 2:00 and this should push the cap off. 2. Remove the shaft, at this point there would be the other end cap on the other end of the shaft. 3. At this point you can do 1 of 2 things, get some Vaseline like others have said and cover the shaft in it and put it back together (this will get you by for maybe a few days) OR 3b. Go out and buy 2.5MM stainless steel rods on amazon, they come in 10 packs 300 mm long so you could make 30 of them if you needed to. 4. Use your old shaft to determine the right length and cut exactly to that length using cutters and a grinder or dermal tool to smooth it off. Just make sure the length is right. 5. Use Vaseline on the rod and put it back together with the end caps on the ends. You will have plenty of material left over for additional shafts. I did buy this one new because I needed it in a pinch, but I saved the old one and bought new the new stainless steel rods so I have one ready when this new one goes bad. I will just keep replacing the shafts and never buy a new one again.

Good just pricey
I’ve had to Order 2 since I run around 4-5 of the marineland filters of this impellers type. So far they are working well, I’d give it a 5/5 if they were a little less cheap maybe 10-15 in price but 25 is a bit wild in my opinion.. otherwise you get a prefect impeller !

Cheap fix for a loud filter
Before buying this I tried adding vaseline to the impeller but it didn't help. I was going to buy a whole new filter but decided to try this. I'm so happy I did. It came in the mail after two days from my order, I replaced the old impeller with this one, turned back on the filter and no noise (other than water running through the filter). Considering this is the only moving part in the HOB filter it's a cheap and easy fix to keep this thing running for years to come. I assume I'll have to buy another one at some point but I most certainly will.

Wear out quickly. Poor materials.
Ordered as replacements for impellers that were noisy. Nice and quiet for three whole weeks. Metal posts already wearing away with deep grooves. Old ones lasted years. Expensive to replace for them to wear out that quick... time to think about switching brands. Sad, I genuinely like the filter design other than the impellers failing.

Our filter have been noisy for a few weeks. I read the reviews and decided to give this little guy a try. After replacing the new one in the filter, the noise was gone.... Wish I knew this earlier!

These are color coded, look at the color of your impeller and order according to the color of the one in your aquarium filter. Mine was making a ton of noise and when i replaced the impeller it is now as quiet as a mouse.

I use it to replace the damaged one. Useful but costly.
