Question 1

Why does this say suitable for vegans when the ingredients list fish?

Accepted Answer

Thanks so much for bringing to our attention! We updated our images last week & it looks like our Chilli Chicken information (which is vegetarian & vegan) has been accidentally uploaded for Katsu. Apologies for any confusion & we'll be rectifying this with Amazon ASAP.

Question 2

Hello, are the tubs and lids recyclable through most household recycling schemes? Thanks.

Accepted Answer

Hi! The cup is widely recyclable - just make sure that you unwrap the cardboard sleeve from the cup before putting in the recycling bin. We have recently changed the colour of the lids from black to pink ensuring they are always detected in recycling facilities and removed the plastic film around the noodles [these should be live in supermarkets soon]. We also made sure that the cup and lid are made out of 50% recycled plastic.
We hope this answers your question and thank you for supporting itsu [grocery].

Question 3

What is katsu?

Accepted Answer

Chicken katsu (chicken cutlet (Japanese: チキンカツ, Hepburn: chikinkatsu)), also known as panko chicken, or tori katsu (torikatsu (鶏カツ)) is a Japanese dish of fried chicken made with panko bread crumbs which is also popular in Australia, Hawaii, London, California, and other areas of the world.

The name chicken katsu includes Japanese katsu (カツ), which is a shortened form of katsuretsu (カツレツ), meaning "cutlet".

(Source: - Wikipedia and 2nd hand info from Japanese I know in Japan).

Basically, in the UK, "Katsu" is incorrectly used to refer to the "curry", even though the actual term refers to the "meat". It would be like Japanese shops selling vegan pies and simply calling them "meat", referencing "meat pies", but without the meat.

Question 4

Hi, are any of your rice or gluten free noodles also onion and garlic free?

Accepted Answer
