Greenworks 60V 21in Self-Propelled Lawn Mower, (2) 4.0 Ah Battery Kit

I am really impressed with this product. I have owned at least three lawnmowers over the last 45 years, all major brands and all four cycle gas powered. None of them have been as easy to use as this and as well designed. There are so many features that I find wonderful to use. First of all is the ease of use of a battery powered lawnmower. No more going to the gas station for gas. No more filling the tank with gas. No more draining the fuel tank at the end of the season. No more pulling the starter rope. Now, my wife can mow the lawn in a pinch. I simply plug in the two batteries which are huge and then plug-in the safety switch that connects the batteries to the motor. I like the fact that separate paddles on the handlebar control the motor that spins the blade and the motor to power the wheels to move the lawnmower. Starting just the blade allows me to mow areas that are small near fences and other obstacles. Starting just the wheels on the lawnmower allows me to cross parts of my landscape that are bark mulch to get to the parts of my landscape that our grass. All I need to do to start mowing the lawn after I’ve plugged in the batteries, is to depress the paddles that control the blade, and if I want to, the paddles that control the wheels and then press the green start button above the paddles on the handlebar. The order is important, I tried pushing the green start button before I depressed the paddles and I thought I had a broken lawnmower. The next thing I really like is the fact that the grass catcher works better than any other grass catcher I have ever used. The lawnmower ejects the grass deep into the bag starting at the back and gradually fills the bag all the way to the top in the front. I don’t need to constantly take the bag off, shake it to the back and put it back on. The bag is also easy to take off and put back on. I bag my clippings to prevent thatch and to use as mulch behind my fence to prevent undergrowth from my neighbor’s woodland invading my landscaping. Another feature, I like a lot is that I only need to adjust one lever to change the height of the lawnmower over the grass. The lawnmower has plenty of power to cut my lawn, even when the grass is tall and I’m using one of the lower settings over the grass. The lawnmower has two batteries, but my lawn is small enough that I really never actually end up using the second battery. The battery charger charges the batteries very quickly but recharge times are not critical for me because I cut my entire lawn with just one of the two batteries. The lawnmower automatically switches batteries when needed. I am glad I got the product with two batteries because a single battery is almost fully discharged by the time I finish my yard, which is moderately large. I also like the fact that it has headlights that allow me to cut the lawn after dark. They are bright enough to allow me to clearly see the grass ahead and to mow the lawn without leaving strips of grass uncut. The lawnmower is also quiet. Setting the speed of wheels is a little finicky. A small switch adjusts the speed but finding a spot that is the right pace for me is a work in progress. It’s either too fast or two slow. Another thing that took some getting used to was releasing the paddles controlling the wheels to make sharp turns. When you release the paddles the wheels are usually still locked and so you can’t pull the lawnmower towards you until you first push lawnmower forward half a foot to release the wheels. The lawnmower is well made but I doubt it will last as long as my gas powered ones because the batteries will probably die within a few years and I imagine they will not be cheap to replace. The price of the lawnmower was competitive and even cheaper than a good gas powered lawnmower. As battery powered lawnmowers go, this is cheaper than an Ego or Toro by at least two hundred dollars but it doesn’t feel flimsy or poorly made. I have been using the product for about a month and I’m very satisfied so far.

I picked up this Greenworks 40V electric mower about a year ago, back in October, and it has been a fantastic experience overall. Seriously, never having to deal with gas cans, oil changes, or frustrating pull starts again is pure bliss. It is the main reason I switched from my old model, and I have zero regrets on that front. One huge benefit I did not fully anticipate is how light and easy it is to handle. It is only around sixty pounds without the batteries, which means in the winter I can easily fold it up and carry it down to the basement. That maneuver saves me tons of valuable space in my tiny one car garage. Plus, it handles mulching, bagging, and side ejection really well; it is a versatile machine that is also a cinch to clean up when I am done. My few complaints are minor but worth mentioning for a full review. First, the suction is just not great. It cuts the grass itself fine, but right now, during the Midwest fall, it struggles to pull small leaves into the bagger. My old gas Honda was so much better at that particular task. I suspect the electric motor runs at a lower RPM and that means lower overall suction power. Also, occasionally, maybe forty percent of the time, the automatic battery swap gets confused as one power pack dies. It will keep mowing weakly for a minute or two before it finally seems to remember and switches to the other battery, and I have not figured out a way to manually force the swap. It is just annoying when it happens. Finally, I wish I could turn off the little lights. They come on automatically, and while they probably barely drain the battery, I do not need them shining at three in the afternoon in July. Give me a switch on that thing! Despite those little quirks, I am very happy with the purchase and the overall freedom that electric mowing provides. It is an excellent upgrade for suburban lawn maintenance. I just hope it lasts as long as my Honda did (20 years!).

This mower is fantastic! It's my first electric mower and also my first self-propelled mower. Even though my gas mower was still in good condition, pushing it through our thick St. Augustine grass was wearing me out. The Greenworks mower is much lighter than my old gas mower and the adjustable self-propelled feature works flawlessly. It's very quiet--similar to a large box fan on high--so now I can mow early in the morning before the 106-degree Texas afternoon heat arrives and still not disturb my neighbors. The battery life is very good. The mower holds 2 60v batteries, but uses them one at a time. When the first one is depleted, it switches to the second one. Charge time is less than an hour and I can mow my 1/4 acre lot with about 3/4 charge left on the second battery (using the self-propelled feature most of the time). If you need to, you can pull the first drained battery and put it on the charger while you mow with the second battery. There are some spots in my yard where the grass is thicker than other areas. My gas mower would bog down in these areas, but this mower goes right through them with ease. It has a "TURBO" button which increases the speed of the motor for these types of areas, but I haven't needed to use it. I haven't used the grass bag yet, but the mulching blade works great without really leaving any visable grass clippings. It's super easy to adjust the cutting height--just one handle adjusts all four wheels. I can honestly say this Greenworks mower is an excellent unit and I will never own another gas mower.

This is my first electric mower After mowing my complete lawn for the first time, I have some observations. (1) The speed control for the self-propulsion slides around on its own in response to vibration of the mower. (2) The self-propelled clutch does not disengage immediately when the lever is released. It remains engaged unless you push it forward a foot or so. Otherwise, it will not allow you to pull the mower backwards to work around obstructions in your yard. (3) The battery life exceeded my expectations, running for roughly 70 minutes and completing the entire yard on one charge of both batteries. (4) Cut through high grass with ease and did a great job of mulching the grass. (5) It was a little difficult to figure out how to engage the blade. The instruction could be a bit more clear on that. (6) Raising and lowering the deck was very easy. (7) Recharging both batteries was as fast as promised. (8) Packaging was very well done. (9) Assembly was easy. If the speed control was less prone to move on its own, and the clutch would disengage more quickly, this mower would be perfect.

OMG, I love this thing. First, Read the Directions and look at the pictures on the startup page so that you know which handles to use. As an older female, it's the best lawnmower I could have bought. We have a small yard but I have already used it 3 times. It took me a couple of minutes to learn how it worked. This mower has 4 handles, 2 on the left and 2 on the right so that you can use either hand, you don't need to use both. You only have to press the handles on one side not both for the mower to move and to mow. Very easy. We ordered the 60 volt self propelled 21" and it goes very fast even on "turtle mode", which is all that I have used so far. The fast charger that came with it charges both batteries or one at a time, and the lawnmower uses 1 at a time, so you can put one battery or 2 in the mower and it will use one and then switch over to the other if you put them both in. It's very quiet but not silent. It folds up very easily so that you can stand it on end, however it is heavy. It has a couple of handle settings depending on your height for mowing. The bottom cleans off fairly easy if it's grass. The first time I mowed it had sand and dirt caked on the bottom and it did not come off with a soft cloth like the directions indicated, so I waited until the next day when I mowed the back lawn which was high and was a little wet. When I went to clean it, I used a rubber spatula and it cleaned up perfectly, even the dried on sand/dirt and the wet grass fell right off. The one thing that you might keep in mind is that it's very powerful and fast. If you have a small yard or if you are a smaller person you might want to try the 16" mower which is probably lighter. I just want to say that after using many old, heavy gas mowers, both push and self propelled, this is electric mower is amazing. No straining to pull a cord to start, just push a button. No gas, no oil, no carburetor. FYI, I ordered online from Amazon and it was on sale with free shipping so you might want to watch for that or on their website. Good luck

I bought this mower specifically because the listing advertises up to 3/4 acre of coverage, and I have a property of little over one acre. The mower works fine, cuts fine if you like to cut above 4 mark level. Below that, it gets stuck and the mower turns off. My bigger issue is the runtime, and it is a serious one. I did not get the advertised coverage even close. Using the two included 4.0Ah batteries, the mower ran down long before I expected. I purchased their another product (Greenworks 60V Cordless Yard Tool Combo Kit with 4.0Ah Battery & Charger – 13" Dual-Line String Trimmer and 540 CFM Leaf Blower) and used that 4.0Ah battery as well, which brings the total to 12.0Ah of capacity, and even with all three I was not able to finish a single quarter acre in one session. That is roughly a third of what the listing claims this mower can do, and it was not a marginal miss. It was not even close. I live in Oklahoma and I used this product in May/June. This is a thick grass. I tried with and without self-propel to see if there is any difference. But even without using self-propel, I was barely able to mow 1/4 acre with THREE batteries. The listing makes no such qualification. It states 3/4 acre, and a buyer with a half-acre to one-acre lot will reasonably expect to finish the job. I could not, and a third battery did not rescue it. For anyone with a half acre or more, the 3/4 acre claim is optimistic to the point of being misleading. For me, this feels like a complete false advertisement and nothing more. I have an acre of land and I cannot spend 4 days a week to mow my yard. So, this is completely not acceptable and hence returning it and moving to a riding mower. My advise is to do research before investing.

I love this mower. I am a 74 yr old woman and I can easily manage this mower. I love the 2 speeds and the angled leavers for steering. The batteries charge pretty quick about 4 hours. I can’t do my entire lawn at one time on the batteries so I break up my mowing to two mornings.

As I see on many of these reviews after 69 years this is also my first electric mower. What a wonderful surprise and no gas cans or oil to deal with. Well-built love the steel deck. Not sure how the plastic deck would perform but the steel works very well for the cutting. Beautiful even cut. Two minor issues. The first is as I see on other reviews the rubber cord protector needs to be removed prior to handle assembly. Yes it is written in the instructions however it is not clear and frankly so well made it has the appearance it has to be/should be there. It has to be there to protect the cords in transport I understand but perhaps just a little more clarity would have saved me 30 minutes of so trying to figure it out. The second again as I see in other reviews there is a delay once the self-propel is released. It will not move until the self-propel releases the wheels are locked up. Seems like that takes too long. These minor issues do not outweigh the many positives. The battery charge is very quick and the battery life is not an issue. All said this electric mower is a solid, easy to use, and has a great self-propel speed. I would think this mower stands out well compared to the competition.

If you have arthritis, like this 80 year old female, a little help would be great putting it together. It runs great and did front and back yards on less than both batteries. I found the batteries difficult to remove from their housing but others in the household did not. They charge quickly and yhe machine is easy to maneuver. We have only had it a short time - one cut each front and back yards - but are pleased with its performance.
