The Unvarnished Gospels

This powerful book of the 4 gospels was mailed to me as part of a class called Dr. of Christian Studies that I signed up for through ULC Seminary. From the moment I opened its pages and began to read I found the characters to be so alive in content and truth. I also found it to be much easier to read, as it is in today's modern language, although thee's and thou's can be quite poetic, I find it much easier to grasp. Even the parables that Jesus spoke was explained with clarity! I am a Christian and a student of metaphysics. It was a breath of fresh air.

Great read. So refreshing to read the words attributed to Jesus , before the church had an opportunity to spin and edit. Buy it - gain insight.

This is a wonderful book and belongs on almost every bookshelf. The literal translation of the oldest Greek texts makes for some very compelling reading. The characters and events of the New Testament come alive. I personally didn't find too much that was "unorthodox". This is not a re-interpretation of the Gospels, but rather a new translation, and as such is not another New Age fantasy. It will inspire you, and also make you wonder how your official Bible came to differ from the original. But most of all, it will rekindle your love of the Gospels.

This translation of the 'unvarnished' Gospels provides a gentle off ramp from the mainstream state sponsored Western Christian Church.I recommend it to anyone who craves a better idea of the ministry of this important man.

I found the effect of this book to be cumulative, in that I sought a quotable excerpt to put into this review but just could not find one. It is just that the book reads so well that the reader gets a new and fresh read of these otherwise well known stories. I would point out that the book uses American English and this is most notable in the slang words used and when a coin is mentioned! Many 'different' translations, such as  KJ3 Literal Translation New Testament  really make only small differences to ones's understanding and make new points that could probably be better summarised in an essay. This version however really does keep the readers interest in the ongoing stories and which read much as we would write today and so get the various points over with clarity. For those who read seeking the truth of the matter this is indeed another step forward to better thinking. Perhaps worth saying that unlike readings such as 'The Message' this book does not seek to use transliteration into 'modern' parlance by paraphrasing; this is a true translation by word. Also that the general 'holiness' that is nowadays implicit in these stories is perhaps lessened. Recommended. KJ3 Literal Translation New Testament
