If this is Polyester then why is this being advertised as Satin??

It's advertised as "silk like". Polyester is a cheaper fabric made synthetically; silk is a natural fabric made from actual silkworms.

Is this too large to be used as a purse scarf?

Remember---it's not the size of the scarf itself, it's how you fold it.
