Review: Awesome read for school age kids - made this book a requirement to read and do an essay on for my 5th graders. they didn't realize how much the book would inspire them to want to read more. it was funny and kept them on the edge of their seats Review: great book - Purchased this book for my class of fifth graders. At the time, I had a hard time finding it in print and the author Ken Derby went out of his way to make sure I got a copy. I have since purchased a second copy to put in my classroom library. Used as a read aloud and my students loved it couldn't wait for me to read it to them each day. I highly recommend this book as a read aloud or if you have a reluctant reader this could get them motivated. Adventures are wonderfully detailed and the kids in the book are very relatable 2 kids today. Thank you Mr Derby for such a wonderful book!

A book my grandson actually liked to read
My grandson needed to read a book for a book report for school. He's in the 5th grade. He does not like to read. I found this book for him. He said, after the first few chapters, that this book is funny and is not the dumb book he thought I'd pick for him! That says volumes for him! Thanks for the enjoyable read.

Great Way to Start the Year!
I love using this book as a read aloud at the beginning of the year! I have the kids create games with comprehension questions and write letters to David Letterman. The best part is all of the giggles I hear from my 5th graders each day I read. I also model reading strategies as I go through the book as well. Thanks for writing such a fun book!

What not to do
After reading the first few pages of this book I decided it was right for a read aloud. The first issues was that the author described a character as having โchocolateโ colored skin and I prefer not to describe people using food terms. The second was another character was planning to misbehave in the bathroom. The plan was described in detail and heaven knows I donโt need to give my students a blueprint for mischief. It might have been okay after that but it didnโt suit what I was looking for.

Great Read Aloud Book!
I am reading this book aloud to my combined grades 4 and 5 class. Even though they don't know who David Letterman is, they think it is hilarious! Many of the boys in my class have asked if they can borrow it once I am finished reading it to them. For me, to find something that boys want to read, it is an accomplishment!!!! As for Amazon - as always - quick, reliable service.

Our 9 year old enjoyed this.
He rated it 7/10 because he said he would have liked it to be longer and a little bit funnier. Even so, once he started the book, he read it right through.
