If you mean the air flow (speed), then the answer is YES. If you mean the temperature of the air, then the answer is NO (because it is not accurate when it comes to temperature)

what is the purpose of the USB cord?

HOLDPEAK told me that the USB port on the back of the HP-866B-APP is only to provide power to the unit if the batteries are dead or missing, but not for data transfer.

does this have a screw on the bottom to attach to the tripod

I received mine today. Is there any way to adjust the contrast of the display? I can't hardly read mine.

No contrast adjustment that I know of but there is a back light. But there is a back light that might help. Check your battery. It is a bit sensitive to your viewing angle so hold it directly in line with your eyes. But I repeat, check your battery.
