My new bestest friend
Cleaning is my life. With 11 cats and a clumsy husband, it has to be. I owned the original model Floormate back at the turn of the century. It worked fantastically for 9 years and then started to fail in various ways. I've been using a Swiffer wet mop ever since. Lately, the Swiffer has been leaving streaks and some sort of white film on all my floors, so I bought another Floormate. Right out of the box, this one is superior to the first. The tanks are on either side, allowing you to get under lower objects when cleaning. The controls are straightforward, allowing even an instruction manual tosser like me to use it right away. The brushes scrub dirt off the floor. Now, if your careless spouse dripped syrup on the floor and nobody noticed for a week, you're going to have to go over it quite a few times. The Swiffer would never get that up. To address the issues some others have had: Go slow. Give the brushes time to work. Remember that the brushes engage and the nozzle pressurizes and sprays with each forward pass. On the backward pass, all of that has to switch gears and the squeegee has to engage. Also remember that none of this happens instantly. It's a floor cleaner, not a life support machine. If you run it back and forth quickly like a vacuum, no, it won't clean well. As for the leakage: Yes, it does leak a bit. But again, you have to remember the mechanism and the fact that the entire bottom of the machine gets wet while it does its thing. Give it an extra backward pass to compensate. And when you stop cleaning and take off the tanks, that little reservoir where the cleaner tank connects has water in it. Blot it out with a paper towel and it won't leave a puddle on your floor. This machine cleans really well, judging by the gray and brown water in the holding tank. That came off my freshly Swiffered floor. It handled my tile extremely well, cleaning muck off of it in one pass and doing a halfway decent job with the grout. The regular laminate floors worried me because any amount of water on them makes it swell and curl, so I went gently, not using too much solution and making sure to get it extra dry. Yes, it did leave streaks, but that smooth, shiny surface is prone to them. The LVP came clean in the wink of an eye and because of the wood grain texture, had no streaks. My sheet vinyl came clean easily, though there were a few extra passes to get up the kitchen grease that spatters in front of the stove. I love that this is so light and compact. I'm a small person and large machines make me not want to use them. It feels quite sturdy and I think it might well last as long as my old one did, or perhaps longer. I have no trouble at all recommending this to a friend because the darn thing simply works.

Love this - second machine we've owned!
Totally love this updated model. We had one for years at another home and used it mainly for our entrance way & kitchen tile floor. With 3 dogs and a lot of foot traffic given the central location in our home, it got a lot of hard use and served us well. That model had a much smaller container for the cleaning liquid so it required multiple refills to finish the floor. It really never stopped working, we just decided it was time to let it go so it didn't make the move with us. The new model we just received has a larger container for the cleaning fluid and works great! We have a lot of tile floors as we are in south Florida now and I didn't but this right away -- so I just used a manual spray/push mop and soon decided that was ridiculous :) In looking at all the different floor cleaners available, I decided once again this was the best bang for your buck! Certainly cuts the time in half and much easier on your back than a manual mop! This is worth every penny and a lot of bang for your buck without going to a more expensive machine. I usually sweep up at least in the kitchen first, so I don't expect this to be a vacuum cleaner, but it does have enough suction and pull up whatever is left behind. I don't expect to use it to clean our area rugs, but I have run it over a thin throw rug and it works fine. We don't have wood flooring but this seems to put out just enough moisture to do the job so it would not oversaturate your flooring and should work well. I like that it also has a trigger you can use for extra cleaning solvent to be dispensed for a tough spot on the floor. Just like after I would mop, I don't expect the floor to be completely 100% dry when I'm finished, but this does have a "wet / dry" lever and the dry side does pull up any excess fluid on the floor so in my book it works great and whatever is left behind dries up quickly. I hope it lasts us as long as the other one (many years!) and this one won't have to work quite as hard because our layout is different and we have fewer dogs now. So this is a good little workhorse and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it!

Poor build quality and HORRIBLE customer service.
The first time I used the Hoover Floormate it leaked all over my floor. I chalked it up to user error and tried re-seating the tanks. It still leaked to some extent but was usable. Initial impressions were good. As the floor dried, I could see that the unit only cleans the "loose" dirt. Any dried stains (in my case dog drool from his food and water dish) will not be cleaned unless I go over the area 4-5 times, and sometimes they still persist. The Floormate worked moderately well for about 2 months until it suddenly started emitting a high shrieking sound and a burning smell. I checked the Hoover web site for information, and it directed me to a service number. I called 3 times, each time I waited for over an hour only to give up out of frustration. Before I disconnected eact time, I requested a call back. One week later I received a call from an out-of-state repair shop. The technician asked me a series of question and told me that the unit was under warranty. The person asked me what the specific issue was and after I explained she requested that I turn the unit on she could hear the issue for herself. I complied and she said, "I don't hear anything out of the ordinary". After a bit of back and forth she finally agreed to solicit a repair request with Hoover. I said, "you're not from Hoover?" and she replied "No, we're an independent repair shop that just assess as to whether a warranty claim is valid". 40 minutes into the call she finally entered the claim and told me that Hoover would be in touch via email. She also said that I would have to drop off the unit at a local repair shop, which is an 80-minute drive from my home. I received the email form Hoover and contacted their service rep. The rep wanted me to go through the entire process again, this time requesting video proof of the problem. Before we got too far into the conversation, I told them that I had surgery scheduled and would be out of commission for 3 months, so I could not drop off the faulty item at the repair shop. They said that a drop off is my only option. At this point I had enough of this nonsense and decided it was better just to take the loss, toss the unit in the garbage and never buy products from Hoover again. I also have a Hoover rug cleaner which broke after about 6 months due to a rusty turbine, which is a known problem they refuse to address. BUYER BEWARE!

Great machine with some minor flaws
This machine is great, It cleans well, picks up well so the floors dry fast. I bought this about 2 years ago when my parents got vinyl flooring installed in the basement since there was alot of flooring, i decided to buy a machine to make easy cleanup. I bought this specific one after watching Performance Reviews which is a Youtube channel that reviews, repairs, and explains vacuum cleaners, the guy who runs it, i dont know his name, but he is a vacuum repair technician with multiple years of experience. I highly recommened checking him out, as he gives lots of great information. He reviewed a unit similar to this which was the PowerDash model, and this one is its bigger brother having larger tanks. It has a on/off switch for the brushes, which is the knob labeled wash/dry, there are two triggers that dispense the water, one sprays a normal amount, the other labeled clean boost sprays more. It has 4 vertical counter rotating brushes which Hoover calls Spinscrub, they scrub well and are gentle on floors. they do float to auto adjust to any floor type. I used this every once in a while in the basement and had good results with it, just from normal foot traffic. Since I was in a college dorm, and the floors here are nasty, I tried this in my dorm room and it cleaned really well even though the floors are beyond repair and should be replaced, the water in the tank was black, the floors dried quickly, and there was no residue left behind. This was using Hoover solution. Some gripes I have with this machine are the main trigger to dispense water feels quite loose, it does work as it should, but sometimes I press it and I think its not working because it feels loose. The clean boost trigger is fine though. The brushes can fall out on their own if you leave it in wash mode, I assume it happens because the brushes float to adjust to different floors and therefore more loose, so whenever you move the machine from one place to another, make sure you put it in dry mode so the brushes are held in and won't fall out. The suction head has a rubber ring on it to help it seal well to the floor, its not perfect, since some floors are uneven or have gaps between them like tile, so you may see patches of water left over on the floor. Not anything wrong with the machine, some floors are like that, but something to look out for. Those are the only issues I have with the machine, and most issues can be alleviated with a few changes. The machine is easy to take apart and clean, the tanks, nozzle, and brushes all come off easy, and the machine is also well built.

THIS WORKS!
This really works! I have small tiles with much grout. I put Lestoil and hot water in the machine and it does a great job. You have to move slowly, can't do a rush job. I even tested how clean the floor was after using this machine by putting plain hot water in the tank and then checking the dirty water tank. The dirty water tank had CLEAN water in it after use. The machine itself is heavy duty though looks compact.

OK but not great - updated Feb 2025
Got this today and immediately tried it out on our kitchen and bathroom floors. While it definitely cleans it is not as good as I thought it would be. I have been using a rotary cleaner (bissell crosswave) but was feeling that it was pushing dirty fluid into the grout lines so bought this in the hope it would help clean dirty grout lines. Main points: 1. the grout between our tiles is not flush with the tiles and the brushes dont seem to reach down and clean these slightly (less than an eighth of an inch) recessed grout lines. 2. the brushes dont have enough strength/ force to lift any stuck on bits.....we dont have particularly dirty tiles but where there was some detritus that was stuck on the tiles I had to scratch this off as the brushes would not take it off the tiles 3. the fluid is not always completely sucked up and sometimes takes a second or third pass to remove it Overall I am disappointed that it is not better, but I guess maybe my expectations were higher than they should have been for a $125 machine. On my first try I would not recommend this to others as I dont think it really cleans well....it's fine for a freshen up but not for a good clean. UPDATE 10DEC2023 I have now used this a second time and now that I have set my expectations, I am much happier with what this cleaner/washer does. It def lifts general dirt and if I spray sticky or hard spots first it does clean up most of these types of spots. I got down on hands and knees and cleaned the grout lines with a toothbrush and the hoover cleaner solution......now they are clean the cleaner looks like it will keep them clean and not deposit dirt like the bissell does. Still 4 stars but I am much happier Update 18OCT2024 I have had this machine a year now (nearly) and have used it repeatedly to clean kitchen and bathroom tiled floors - I still find it better than anything else I have used and recommend it - but a few gripes.. 1) I wish the rotating brushes came in a longer format.....my grout is not flush with the tile and as such the brushes do not get down into the grooves and have a tendency to brush dirty water into the dip.....the suction is good but does not always remove everything and as such I have to get down on my knees with a toothbrush every three months to really clean the grout...so long brushes would really help!! 2) cleaning the sponge filter on the waste side is a PITA and could be engineered to be easier 3) you must clean the system by emptying everything and putting clean (no cleaner) water in the tank and then running it through the system and pulling the two triggers to clean the valves or you will find they have a tendency to stick next time you use it Overall though I am happy with this system Updated Feb 2025 Stopped working 15 months after purchase, motor appears to have burned out!!! Half way through floor and just stopped, checked outlet, was still working, suddenly noticed a "smell coming from washer, unplugged and put outside!!! For transparency I have just ordered another but will purchase the extended warranty this time.......I do like what the cleaner will do for tile and wood floors.....as long as you go slow and give chance for the cleaner/fluid to do its work (we have 5 cats). This is just a work of warning for others when buying.

Easy to use and scrubs a lot of dirt.
I was tired of hauling buckets of water, only to feel like I was just putting dirty water back in the bucket and reusing it. I’ve had this cleaner a month and love that only clean water goes on the floor and the dirty water gets sucked back up. I’m honestly really surprised how much dirt it picks up and I can feel the difference when I walk on clean floors! I know other reviewers say it isn’t reliable long-term so we will see how I am feeling in a year but for now very happy with the ease and amount of dirt it sucks up.

Cleans the floor and the GROUT LINES!!
I just recently bought this machine and I adore it! I have a senior dog who unfortunately is incontinent. Poor baby girl goes for a walk and doesn't realize that she is still dribbling. Luckily, I have tile floors on the main floor of the house, but, I need to clean them at least once a day if not twice a day. As you can imagine, I was getting reallllly realllllllly sick and tired of scrubbing my floors, specifically the grout lines every day. So, I went hunting for a new method and came across this bad boy! I tried his predecessor and was not impressed but after reading all of the reviews, I decided to try him out. Not going to lie, it took some trial and error to figure out the perfect method. First time I used it, I wasn't very impressed, I just didn't feel like it did anything. Second time around, I used a different floor cleaner solution. Again, wasn't thrilled. Finally, I decided to give it one last try. I sprayed Clorox Urine Remover for Stain & Odor on the tiles specifically making sure that the grout lines also got sprayed and then used the Hoover FloorMate to deposit the solution and scrub the floors and grout, I do a pass over a 4 ft by 1 ft area twice. (Up spraying solution, down sucking up the dirty water, up spraying the solution to rinse, down sucking up the moisture and any remaining dirt and move one to the next row). I usually work in a 4 x 4 foot area and each area takes about a minute and half for each area. The solution in the tank is a tsp of bleach and water. Finally, if for some reason I deposited to much solution on the area I will use the dry mode on the hoover to suck up the remaining solution, but, most of the time I don't need to use it. The whole first floor which is about 450 sqft take about 40 minutes to clean. If I was just doing a quick once over without the clorox spray prior, it would probably take me about 20 minutes. This method cleans my floor beautifully. One, it get's rid of the odor. Two, it loses up any dirt and picks up the dog hair. Three, leaves the floors disinfected. Four, the grout lines are nice and clean and not at all grungy (the brushes actually seems to clean the grout lines, maybe not perfectly but well enough that you don't need to scrub them each week like I was doing before. Now, I just steam my grout lines once every six months and the Hoover FloorMate keeps them relatively clean until the next deep clean. One of my major complaints with using a Swiffer and/or Steam Mop [Yes, I have owned both, and all four Swiffer models] was that they never cleaned the grout but rather made it worse). Five, dust is nonexistent. Six, I can do it daily and doesn't strain my back or hurts my knees. Seven, no dirty water is left on my floor. Eight, no need to pre-vacuum. I only have a few complaints. First, it does tend to fill up rather quickly and I have to re-fill the water tank usually three times per session. Next, it doesn't seem very well balance and has dropped a few times after I stood it up to re-fill/empty the tanks. The cleaning solution it comes with is completely worthless. It also does seem to leave a bit of a puddle by your feet while doing a section, but usually once I start on the next section I suck up the puddle, but I has resulted in wet sock a time or two which is an annoyance. Overall, I would definitely recommend this machine to anyone who wants to keep there floors clean and specifically the grout in between the tiles clean! I am thrilled that I purchased this product and I will do so again in the future.

Saves time from scrubbing with mop
I got tired of mopping my floors, so I bought myself this. I love it. Description is exact. But heavier than a vacuum and a bit louder too. Cleans my apt laminate floor and tiled bathroom floor with ease. Easy to snap together. Comes with a small bottle of cleaning solution. Only thing, it is hard to find the cleaning solution that goes with it in stores, most is carpet cleaner from this brand, cant use solution that has lots of suds. DIY solution should work as long as its not bleach or dish soap.

Picks up dirt you can’t see
I am disgusted at how dirty my floors were!! I have been living in filth. This machine works so well. You have to take your time over each spot but it gets the job done!
