Does this add color to gray hair?

Yes, it does. The color is more of a light auburn shade at first, but with frequent use, a deeper color is achieved. I have dark brown hair, and the colored grays blend in nicely. Looks like highlights.

Is it recommended for dark black hair?

Natur Vital Hair Mask is a horrible product and did NOT color black at all! I tried it twice both times failed to color my hair black. I highly recommend Bigen 57 as an excellent alternative coloring product.

So, does the color wash out when you stop using it, with your hair returning to it's natural color?

It is a mask, not a dye. It enhances your natural color.

Apply every two or three washes.
