Grain Brain Organic Palm Shortening (3 lb) Non-Hydrogenated Pure and Natural, Quality, Sustainable Certified

Opening it, I was disappointed, being new to this product, it looked chunky and yellowish, rather than creamy and white. My plans were for icing a tiered cake at an outdoor venue in June, risking hot weather common to the area. Well, SURPRISINGLY, the icing looked way to loose and creamy. It had high quality butter, and I was then concerned about it’s ability to keep its shape. I test piped with several tips and the results were beautiful and stable. The texture wasn’t heavy like icing made with shortening and butter. It showed zero effect outside at the event. No sagging or separation, which was wonderful because it was placed in a sunny exposure spot. There’s more. It got so many compliments. The cake was white with lemon extract and filled with fresh lemon curd. Slices were topped with a dollop of the curd. Guests didn’t scrape the icing off and returned empty plates. It was an absolute hit. Future cakes I make will be iced with frosting made with this product. The flavor and common greasy mouth sensation of grocery store white shortening frosting were completely absent and the buttery goodness came through.

I used this instead of Crisco for shelf stable frosting and it turned out delicious. I was concerned about a waxy mouth feel but it was great! Just whip it up light and fluffy. I warmed it in the microwave a very short time to get it like softened butter.

I used to get the spectrum brand palm oil shortening, but in the last year or so it's gotten much harder to find and way more expensive. I ordered this instead because it was cheaper than spectrum with the exact same ingredient. It's a fairly large tub which is great, we use a lot of it. We've got a bunch of allergies so this is our go-to replacement for any butter or fat in baking. It replaces butter perfectly in cakes, cookies, homemade graham crackers, etc. I'm very happy with how this shortening has performed and will probably buy this instead of spectrum from now on because it's a better price. Glad I found it!

Works in a pinch. I make soap and needed palm oil for a last minute order. This shipped quickly and looks like it was mixed well (palm oil tends to settle), so I was happy about that. My only issue was that it was more expensive than my regular palm oil, but again, this was used in a pinch while I was waiting on my regular order to ship.

I bought this as my daughter who is nursing her first son discovered he cannot digest dairy or soy. I tried it making a pie and the crust is extremely flaky! When I put it into cookies I discovered that the neutral flavor needs to be boosted, as the cookies lost that buttery flavor. I will add citrus zest or peppermint to the next batch. Love this product!

This shortening is nice to use for my pie crusts, cookie baking and anytime I use a shortening - no more hydrogenated oils! My baked goods taste fine - you cannot tell the difference and there is no color issue. Love this organic shortening.
