Sakuna: of Rice and Ruin - Nintendo Switch

The gameplay loop of Sakuna is (generally) as follows: You grow rice. The quality of your rice is determined by how you grow the starting sprouts, how you till your field, how you space the rice during planting, how much water you use at various stages, the kind of fertilizers you use (you make your own), when you harvest, and how you process the rice (like hulling, polishing). The final stats of your rice affect how *your* stats grow (hp, attack, etc), which allows you to do better in combat. The more you fight, the more places you unlock, and the greater the variety of materials you can gather, which allows you to grow better crops. Growing better crops makes you stronger, and loop. While the farming process can be VERY involved, you can play the game just fine without min-maxing or micromanaging your crops. So, if you are not a fan of super farming management, that is fine! You will still have a lot of fun, and at later stages of the game, NPCs can automate and take over the farming if you want. They won't do as well as if you do it yourself, but if you don't like this part of the game, then you do not have to do it! Combat areas are 2D platforms. Sakuna has a fairly wide range of combat styles you can do, and you have a lot of flexibility in button mapping. The farm is 3D, and you can interact with NPCs, collect bugs and produce, craft weapons and clothing, etc. It is a pretty solid game, and let it consume my life for a little while. I love both farming sim/management games and fighting games, and Sakuna is a great crossover between these genres.

I meant to buy this game for a years and I was never convinced. I finally got it on sale, as it usually is, and my only regret is not buying it when it first came out. I find this game very fun to play, the rice growing mechanic is addictive, and the dungeons are fun and challenging. It can sometimes feel a little tedious, but that's the whole point of the game, but do not worry too much about this as you will unlock faster and easier way to grow your rice.

Game review: if you like growing digital rice where making decisions where each sprout goes, how much water there is, when to harvest, and how to finish the rice. This is a good fit. If you also like to play platformers with evolving abilities and special attacks while gathering the ingredients for said rice, this is also for you. And this game blends them seamlessly. It's a great game, and even has a good story too, especially for that bratty girl in your life that could learn humility. Very good voice acting too. All around a wonderful game to have.

I love booklets and manuals that come with movies and games.When the Switch came out,there was no booklets or manuals of any kind.I don’t have a ton of Switch games,but I have never seen a booklet.Lo and behold,a booklet.And a very nice one I might add.It glossy,small in size but loaded with information.Anyway,it is great to finally see a booklet in a Nintendo Switch game.

Excellent game. A good purchase. Do keep in mind, its not a long game, at 30 to 40 hrs at a soft pace. Still it was a very good game, and I hope there is a second part.

Great game!! I've never loved platforming games. This game combines Japanese mythology, culture, anime style artwork, and music. This game is catchy and addictive. I will say the the dialog at times between the characters is a bit corny but I can get pasted that. Though each character has their own personality that makes them different.

which is a miracle, so it must be a good game. oh but then she went back to playing some free to play shooter that isnt nearly as good as this game.. oh well.

La manera en que combina el farming con plataforma es súper refrescante. Llega el momento en que puede ser ligeramente repetitivo, pero el arte que maneja Sakuna es muy bello que te hace querer seguir jugando esta belleza. En modo Portátil se ve ligeramente más bello sin caídas de frames. Además viene con un artbook bastante detallado y hermoso como en la vieja escuela. La manera en que te enseña un poco de la cultura japonesa es genial. Sin duda si te gustan los juegos de farming y plataforma este juego es el tuyo!
