I began tv series before seeing the movie. So happy I went back to see original version. Great show!

A little weird. Its about vampires after all but very funny

This movie is hilarious. I watched the series that followed. It was funny also but the original movie is way better. The characters in the movie are better. Wish they were in the series.

This is a great movie to watch with your friends whilst eating some basketti.

Let me start off by saying that I freaking loved this movie and this is going to be a very long review but well worth the read if you are bored. Furthermore, to explain the length, this movie provided so much necessary distraction, and laughs a plenty that I felt it necessary to inform others. You just have to watch this!!!! Thus, this review is not so much a review as more so to pay homage. Personally, I could even see this becoming a television series, as to me its that good. For instance I can just imagine the neighbors. I’m sure they would have to keep stocked up if that is even possible, to protect themselves. Maybe invest in some crucifixes, a lot of garlic, reinforced doors, windows, something to prevent against mind control, etc. Yeah, naw.Anyway, I swear I have watched this film so many times that I have most of the lines memorized. I love the fact that they used a documentary style that totally works here. Also, love the fact that two of the lead characters, Viago (played by Taika Waititi) and Vladislav (played by Jermaine Clement) co-wrote and co-directed the film. Yet, even with the extra work load, both give simply unforgettable and riotous performances. Hollywood take note because what these two have managed to come up with is pure comedy gold in my eyes with people like myself willing to buy shares.I'm still not even sure which character I liked the best as they are all golden. Everyone shines here in my opinion, which is rare to have such a solid cast and script. So much so that you forget its scripted, I really got into this. They literally created fully realized lives for our main characters and enough meat, pun intended, for everyone else involved.To officially begin I start out with our writers/directors, Viago, the quote on quote “pedantic” one who is just too cute with his love/obsession of his sweetheart. They don't make them like that anymore ladies. I kid I kid. Vladislav is really sexy to me in a deliciously dark and obviously twisted way. He has some of my favorite lines in the film, like: "And the other day I dragged a man’s body down the hallway and notice that their was no dust...like I kind of..I kind of swept the hallway.” The elder vampire Peter (played by Ben Fransham) is also hilarious to me in a muted way. He’s not very sociable, I can relate to that. Then we have Deacon (played by Jonny Brugh), the so-called younger vampire of the group. I just loved his tale of how he became a vampire.. I could go on and on but really I loved all of the characters and how often do you get that. From Nick, which brings me to another favorite line of mine...”my eyes bleed heeps”. Stu, Nick’s sweet as a cherub best mate. Deacon’s familiar, the over used and abused Jackie. The werewolf clan who are actually concerned with swearing. “We’re not swear-wolves we’re werewolves.” Even more comedy gold with just that group alone. Vladislav’s ex nicknamed the Beast, the police officers, literally every character. I’m telling you I have not laughed this much in a long time. In fact, it got to the point that if I had a bad day I would just put this movie in. I guess that’s why I know it so well now. HahaBut seriously this movie for me is top notch which thankfully Hollywood did notice and has responded as a sequel is in the works that will focus on the werewolf clan aptly titled “We’re Wolves” which I cannot wait to see.I also wanted to add that my favorite pack leader, the alfa male, Anton (played by Rhys Darby) was featured as a monster in the new X-Files, Season 10, Episode 3 - “Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster” which aired back in February 2016.Anyway, to wrap it up, I had to mention the awesomely unique soundtrack. For instance the opening track, “You’re Dead”. The little jig they played before going out on the town, ‘’vampire style”. The various club songs played. Loved em all!!!!! If you like weird and just out there, off the wall and not the typical drab, predictable mess that dominates, give this a shot, with a couple of shots and some good friends. Enjoy!!!!!

one of the most hilarious movies that should get talked about more in the pantheon of great comedies. taika waititi is a genius.

The world needs more vampire humor. I like the movie and love the show.

I’m so freaking glad I saw this. LOVED IT

This was a tough gig. No spoilers if you prefer your films first hand. Try to imagine the people who made Flight of the Conchords failing to make a movie about vampires because their budget was too low, but way, way too low and this will give you an idea of what to expect. The concept of an everyday story of vampires was sort of there but lacked development. Another criticism which can be made is that what they had in the budget they turned into full-on blood spattering vampire attacks which stand out jarringly in a "comedy" and who doesn't find the sight of blood spurting from neck wounds hilarious? Well, just about everyone really. A vampire might like it, I suppose.

Clever idea putting a group of stereo typical vampires (the Nosferatu type, the Vlad the Impaler type, the sauve but gentlemanly Dracula type etc) in a suburban house share in Wellington, New Zealand.This mockumentary of their everyday mundane lives but having to cope with their vampire traits in the 21st century is witty and well conceived. Situations are immediately identifiable to us mortals who have ever flat shared. The effects are well done too and amongst the amusing set ups are a few creepy/make you jump moments.The climax is a monster ball with zombie and werewolf chapters from other Wellington suburbs coming together - a bit like a prom night - with the predictable fight, bickering and girl trouble. The werewolf chapter is well conceived too with their leader being a 'sensible' chap (recall him as one of the support cast in the Flight of the Conchords) who doesn't like swearing and bad behavior and insists his mates chain themselves to trees when the full moon comes round so their bloody rampages are minimised - doesn't always work though!As other reviewers have said - it could be the bases for a TV series.

Yes I love the directors work - and Flight Of The Conchords - I have to say this film is brilliant at the start - it is a mockumentary, but also very charming. Cleverly achieved on a low budget, Its all in the script and the brilliant acting and well timed use of effects. I would not call it a movie though - Id say it was a great feature length comedy - and theres plenty of so called feature length comedy movies out there that get nowhere near this in terms of genuine funnyness.Id say Hunt For The wilderpeaople was a better film cinematically - but this is a laugh every minute so is def the winner of the two for me.

I hated 'Eagle Vs Shark', the previous Clement/Waititi co-production, so had mixed feelings about approaching this movie, but I was absolutely blown away.Based on a short film the duo originally made in 2006, this is a documentary about a group of Old World vampires house-sharing in New Zealand, and their belated attempts to get in touch with modern technology (when we meet them, they've progressed to the level of being able to use a phone and watching static on the TV).It's quite laid back and down-beat, but chock-full of funny moments that are making me laugh now just thinking about them (just wait till you see 'The Cathedral of Despair'). It also looks great and is very atmospheric in places. The soundtrack is perfect.Sadly there are no subtitles or commentaries, but there's probably around 1.5 hours of extra footage (deleted scenes, promotional videos etc) that also includes the 2006 original.

One of the funniest films I have ever seen! Most comedies now seem to have one or two genuinely funny moments with little else between, usually used on the trailers so you think the whole film is going to be as funny, but this is sustained comedy. Going to watch it again this weekend!
