Eat It

First I would like to say that all the original recording problems the vinyl release suffered have been corrected & this C.D. has great sound quality!!! Second is from the very start Humble Pie was under intense scrutiny from the critic's so I never pay any attention to what the critic's had to say!!! Many fans & even former Band members feel " Smokin'" was Humble Pie's best album. This is very open for debate for the simple fact music is art & everyone has their personal taste as to what they like best. As a follow up to the highly successful " Smokin' " album " Eat It" holds up very well. " Eat It" was a double album & when you really listen to the music on there it " Rocks" just as hard as " Smokin' " which has a lot of slower Blues songs ( nothing wrong with that) . " Eat It" has just as many " Rockers" on it & as far as it being experimental other than delving a bit deeper into Soul " Humble Pie" showed diversity from the start!!! Not only that but experimenting is how all great bands become legendary bands!!! We hear country from " The Beatles", " The Rolling Stones" & even " Led Zeppelin" . very often when looking back we find what at the time may not have met our expectations when listened to with zero presuppositions gives us some real gems. With the restoration & remastering of " Eat It" listening to this C.D. today was like hearing a totally new Humble Pie album!!! I always loved Humble Pie but after listening to " Eat It" a so called failure I have decided to collect Humble Pie's entire collection !!! If this is Humble Pie at their worst I have zero reservations about collecting their whole catalogue of music!!! this must rank high on rare events in reissuing music because they have fixed all the original recording problems and breathed new life into this album, changing it from a bomb to bombastic!!!!!!

Hi, this is a review for Lemon Records 2012's reissue of Humble Pie's album Eat It. This cd was remastered by Andy Pearce. Most of you are aware that he has done phenomenal work on the EU deluxe editions of Black Sabbath, Dio, Thin Lizzy, etc. He also did the ELP Shout Factory remasters. Lemon Records UK is a division of Cherry Red Records. The reissue is under license to Universal Music Operations.The cd comes cased in a standard jewel case. The spiral is an older type that usually breaks during shipping. This one didn't, but that's luck. You may want to keep a spare jewel case ready if you order.The sound quality is great. I don't have the Japanese version to compare it with, but I have Japanese editions (2007-24 bit remasters) of other Pie albums. I'm satisfied with this edition and won't be getting a Japanese import copy. You won't be disappointed by the sound quality. I like this album, but then again I also like Street Rats which most people despise. Eat It has more soul than heavy rock. Still enjoyable.

Bought it just fo the live tracks. Just doesn’t do it for me with the background singers and the different direction.

If you are looking for Rock On, The Fillmore, or Smokin'---look elsewhere. Marriott moved into a bluesy mode on this one with backup blues singers. Don't get me wrong, this is the last solid Humble Pie cd (the five cd's after this are horrible). Each side is set up to reflect a particular feel and the last side is live. This has some great stuff on it and should not be overlooked.

This was a double vinyl album. The original recording was sub-par because it was recorded in a less than optimal studio (read the liner notes). This re-mastered CD is a great improvement. The highlights are classic however, as with most albums, there is a bit of filler. However, if you are a Humble Pie fan, this is a must-have for your collection. It's a slice of the waning years of the Pie.

Not one of HP's best, but I still got it to add to my collection again. Third format to boot.

first heard this when I bought a used cassette of it in 1984, and I could not find a record of it ever after that. wore that cassette out by 88 and just bought the cd again last week here at amazon. Steve Marriott was always great with HP. Black Coffee, so very good.. and the rest is just fun filled sounds that make you happy

Solid effort, but some of the production choices are very curious. Love the Pie, and grew up with this album ... but do not start here!

They told me to Eat it...I did, and it tasted good. Very good. I only know HP through the legendary, classic live album 'Performance...', and a video I had seen on a rock programme where they blazed through 'Hony tonky woman'. I bought this as I wanted to hear more live Pie, and also I was attracted to the idea the original vinyl was unique in having each side different: Rock, soul/R n B/acoustic then Live. This has to be ultimate HP. I listened to it last night for the first time and loved it. It has the best of HP, their different styles and, of course, saving the best till last, having 3 raw, great live tracks to finish with. They are a cracking band, and hats off to Steve Marriott. A great, soulful singer who can rock with the best of them. A very unique voice. The rock stuff is fab, the sould stuff cracking, ('Black Coffee' is just great), the acoustic songs show another side to the band and Marriott and the live stuff is spot on. A rough and ready live recording from a theatre in Glasgow, they blaze through the fantastic songs. The really rock on the first track. I felt I was there in the theatre. 'Honky tonk woman' is fab, as is the closer. For any HP fan who might not have this or for any casual listener like me, (i.e., only having heard 'Performance...'), I would recommend this 100%. It will not disappoint.

Whoever thought it was a good idea to put Steve Marriott's vocals in the left speaker on quite a few of the tracks ruins them completely. The early stereo mixes of albums by The Beatles were released like this. Thankfully the mono versions are now available on CD with vocals centre stage as they should be. Also the remastering job of "Eat It" is hardly top notch. Good songs ruined at the recording/mixing stage.

Back then I thought this was a bit underrated as like it back then and still like it! If like Steve Marriot and Humble Pie get it but most reading this have heard this one so if remaster good so its worth buying? Yes I think its well done.

I reluctantly bought this CD in the hope that the remastering would correct the poor booming sound of the original, and it has! This is a wonderful album, with some great playing and very sensitive songs, all topped off by one of the great voices.Having listened to this album almost every week since I bought it, I've now concluded that this is one of The Great Albums, in my (admittedly just a personal opinion) view it is better than any rolling Stones album! I love it!
