Best Color Out There
*updated September 2017 I began using bright colors in my hair when I was twelve, and in the last twenty two years I have tried just about every brand there is. Pravana is by far the most long lasting color option out there. (I do use Joico, Arctic Fox, and Sparks sometimes, but they don't stay in my hair as long). Ion colors are not worth using, and are by far the worst I have tried. If you want excellent results, use excellent products. Morrocanoil is a favorite of mine to rehydrate hair after bleaching, as is Olaplex 1, and 2. My favorite shampoos are Oribe, Kerastase, and Caviar. I use Batiste dry shampoo (it doesn't strip much color, is low priced, and works so well that I only wash my hair once a week). I have my routine and products down solid, and as a result am able to strip my hair again and again, but it still remains shiny and healthy looking. I usually only touch up colors once a month, and this is only to rehydrate and add shine, not because the colors have faded. Pastels are higher maintenance, and I touch them up every week/ every other week depending on shade. Dark colors don't require your hair to be lightened to a nine or ten, but I prefer to have my hair pre lightened to the color of the inside of a banana peel anyway. Platinum hair as a foundation equals beautiful fade when your colors do start to go. Instead of having ugly brassy colors, you will have nice looking pastels. I slather my hair in coconut oil the night before bleaching (I like Schwartzkopf developer and use forty), and apply bleach directly onto oiled hair the next day. I don't find that adding Olaplex 1 to developer does much. However, after rinsing out the bleach in cold water, I apply Olaplex 1 (don't shampoo the bleach out, just rinse). I squeeze out excess water and Olaplex mix, and then work Olaplex 2 in as well. This is left in overnight. In the morning I dampen my hair and work Morrocanoil into it. It seems like a lot of product, but through trial and error I've found a great way to keep my super processed hair strong and awesome. I leave all this in for at least a few hours or overnight again. (I wear hats and put my hair up to leave the house during this process- no shame in my game). I rinse and wash in cold over the sink, and don't bother using conditioner since I will either be bleaching again or adding in Pravana. I have to strip my color twice as my hair is dark, a level 3, so this whole process gets repeated again. Dilute Pravana colors with regular conditioner to make your own shades and pastels. Don't shampoo after the rinse, just rinse with cold water to minimize color bleeding. Leave hair unwashed for about a week to keep your color longer. Pravana' green isn't green. It is teal. If you want green you can mix your own shades using yellow (regular or neon depending on how bright you want to go) for your base and adding tiny amounts of blue. Arctic Fox has some nice shades of green, but they don't stay in my hair as long. Pravan's silver makes an awesome toner that lasts indefinitely if you want an ash blonde look, but you have to cut it with conditioner a bit over half the total mix. (The super blonde pic I added I used the silver as toner mixed one part Pravana and two and a half parts conditioner) Happy coloring! I'm happy to answer questions as well if you have any.

Not for the faint-at-heart! Beautiful bold color
Holy moly! This is the holy Grail of superbright and saturating hair colors. I can't even believe how deep and vibrant this color is. This is not for the faint of heart or for newbies. This is intense and can make a huge permanent mess if you aren't careful ( just check out the photo of my tub after I rinsed the color out) I have used pravana hair dye before to go bright red. I wanted to do something a little brighter and more intense this time, and so I chose the violet color. It actually turned out darker than the color swatch that is shown in the product photo, but I'm sure the color will fade over time into a beautiful violet purple. My hair had also been previously bleached and colored, so it's possible that because I was starting with a darker hair strand, the color is darker and general on my hair. Something that is very important to note is to read the directions that are on Amazon or that other reviewers have posted before you start. When I was doing the red dye, most people said to leave it on his long as possible. However, for the violet die, the users do not recommend leaving it on for more than 20 or 30 minutes as it can actually make the hair color fade faster. I'm not sure if this is true, but after 40 minutes, I ran to the bathroom to rinse it out because I was worried about overdoing it. The most important thing for you to know is that this makes a huge mess if you're not careful. If this is your first time dying your hair and you really want to do it yourself at home, I highly recommend doing it outside or covering your entire dye area with plastic. It made a huge mess on my deck and dyed a couple of my fabric chairs purple when my friend dripped color on them. (She was rushing and used way more product than needed, so it made a huge dripping mess. Take your time and start out with less color, adding more as needed, rather than using a ton at once, and making a mess). I was able to get them out with soap and water but you must do this immediately if you want to have any chance of getting the stain out of anything. I posted a picture of my tub after I rinsed the color out. It's also good to know and that everything on my body was dark purple. It took me several sessions of exfoliating and scrubbing to get the color out. Just be prepared for your shoulders and back and hands to be slightly purple that first day. It also died my feet purple in the shower from the dye running down my body. It's not a super big deal, and two days later it is already faded and you can't tell on my body, but something to know if you were doing it before an event. I almost recommend just taking this color to a salon and having them do it there to spare yourself the trouble of the mess at home. I did have my ends professionally bleached several months ago. I don't ever recommend doing the bleaching yourself at home but that is totally up to you. I don't know your level of hair expertise and so if you feel confident bleaching your hair at home, who am I to stop you? Anyway, I put my hair in a pony tail and so I just had my friend up tie-dye to the part below the ponytail that was previously bleached professionally. oh, I also would recommend investing in purple or very dark colored towels for you to use when dying, rinsing, and for the next several weeks after you apply the haircolor. I have been pleasantly surprised with how little the color has transferred on other items considering how terrible the bleeding and dyeing was on the first night. It did transfer onto the crystal clear white gym towels that they provide at my gym, but I didn't notice anything on my towels from hot yoga where I sweat a lot. That being said, I invested in a couple of blue and purple darker colored yoga towels and would highly recommend you do the same if you are planning on working out with this bright hair color. I'm hoping that as time goes on, The color will stick more and more and I won't have to worry about transfer at all. For now, I plan on wearing a darker colored shirts and not having my hair wet resting against any fabrics in my house or on my clothes. I did post a picture of my bathtub so that you can see the intensity that I am talking about. That is why they call these colors vivid. Regardless, I've gotten tons of compliments and I absolutely love it. It's a super bright and vibrant purple but I'm looking forward to lighting a little bit overtime and being the beautiful purple that is in the stock photo. I did add a third photo of the tub after I spent hours using comments, magic eraser, and a scrub brush. So, it is possible to get the colors out of your tub, but I wish I could have avoided this in the first place by just rinsing my hair outside or next time, I will just take this color to a salon.

My experience
Update: I've come to realize this stuff is basically permanent. Over six weeks later, the color turned into a still bright but slightly muted version of the same bright purple. Perfectly within my range of acceptable. By this time it was time to bleach and re-dye it because my dark roots were showing. Seriously, this stuff is great. SHORT VERSION: Three days has been enough to convince me that this is the best stuff out there. I have had purple hair for a very long time, and I am a very active person, and yet even when it's fresh, this stuff does not run under extreme conditions, whereas every other dye brand I have tried does - even this unsealed vs. other brands sealed. Based on this early experience I expect it to last for a very longtime in comparison to others. If you want a vivid, unnatural hair color, long-term, don't play around with the consumer brands. This is what professionals use, and for very good reason. It stays in hair, yet comes out of most everything else (I would avoid getting it on fabric though!) fairly easily. However, seeing how well it's sticking to my hair, I doubt I could recommend it for short term use. The directions say it can be bleached out and dyed over to a medium to dark color, but I don't intend to try. I like my purple. LONG VERSION: So, I've had purple hair for a very long time (I even sometimes jokingly claim that it's natural). I've used very nearly every brand I've been able to find. I am also a very active person, and usually have a problem with dye bleeding when I sweat, so I figured trying out a professional brand might be wise - if it holds up to rock stars, it might work for me, right? So I bought it, it arrived in a timely fashion, and this has been my experience: Day 1: Applied the dye. The first thing I noticed about it is that it's a nice royal purple, not reddish like other dyes I've tried - a good thing in my book; this is exactly the color I'm always aiming for. It's applied with a bowl and brush, which I usually use anyway as it's much neater than most applicator bottles. It went on easy, and gets good coverage; my hair is short and about 1/3 of the tube was enough for my whole head. I probably even used more than I needed just out of habit, actually. The instructions say to leave it in for no more than 20 minutes or it may actually make it fade faster. I was skeptical of this, but followed the instructions to the best of my ability anyway (it took several minutes to "paint" all my hair so I couldn't be very precise); I will let you know just how well it works. After the 20 minutes were up, I stepped in the shower to rinse it off, and that's where this gets exciting. There is a reason this stuff says it's for professional use only, and it's not that it can be dangerous if used improperly - it's for the mess it can make without professional equipment to contain it! The first thing I noticed was that the water was much brighter than I expected for the amount of dye I used (which led to my suspicion that I may have used more than I really needed). The second thing I noticed was that the water dyed my skin. The third thing I noticed was that after about 0.5 seconds of contact with the dye-water, my entire shower was covered in purple streaks. Everything was purple. Everything. My entire body, my shower, everything that came into contact with the diluted form of this dye for just a matter of seconds. Though it came off easily enough with about half an hour of washing and scrubbing (incidentally, my bathroom looks cleaner now than it has in years, not sure if it's just from the intensity of the scrubbing or if I left some dye behind and the blue tone is canceling out the yellow stains that have set in over the years), the next time I use this I fully intend to rinse my hair out in the sink...and line it with plastic first. I strongly recommend having plenty of soap, toothpaste, bleach, and Mr. Clean Magic Erasers or knockoffs thereof on hand. Still, if this is what happened after half a second of contact with the diluted dye, I have high hopes for how well it will stay in my hair after 20 minutes of contact with the concentrated stuff! Now rinsed and dry, after having been applied to my hair , which was pink due to residual dye from the last time I colored it, it's still a fantastic royal purple, exactly my favorite shade. So far, everything's looking good! Day 2: Washed hair at night; water was clear, though a good amount of pigment came out with shampoo. Made no apparent difference in hair's overall color, though noticing a fantastic iridescence on just-conditioned hair that hasn't appeared with other dye brands. Tomorrow is my first day of training since dyeing my hair; this is the real test... Day 3: It is perhaps time to explain the kind of training I do on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I take a body conditioning class through my college, which is taught by a remarkable woman who coaches professional athletes as well as amateurs. My heart rate usually reaches 95% of my maximum safe heart rate, and I leave sweating so much that I look more like I've been swimming than running and lifting weights. The dye did not run. Every other brand of dye I have every used runs after this kind of training, at the very least for the first week. This stuff? Stayed in place; the closest it came to running was a small amount rubbing off on my forehead from my fringe (easily cleaned up with soap and water) - and I didn't even get a chance to seal it like I have with other brands! I believe this is enough evidence for me to deliver my semi-final verdict. I am fully convinced that this stuff is the best out there.

Beautiful vivid, long lasting, different hair color :)
This stuff is freaking awesome! I purchased this Pravana Vivids in Violet after doing a lot of research about "fantasy" color hair dye. My lifelong dream has always been to have a full head of blue or purple hair, but I never tried getting my hair dyed on any color different than black. Mostly because all the fantasy color hair dyes I knew about were semi-permanent, and would wash out in a couple days/weeks. About 2 years ago I decided I wanted to go blonde, so I started my journey of bleaching blackest black dyed hair into blonde. It took me several shades of orange, many months of treatment after damaging my hair A LOT. But after a year or so I finally achieved a blonde level 10. Then I started to look once again for vivid color hair dye and came across Pravana. When I saw these were available here on Amazon for anyone to purchase, I was thrilled. So I went ahead and purchased it. To apply it, I used almost a bottle of my favorite conditioner and mixed most of one tube of dye. The final color was a very deep rich purple/violet with some blueish undertones, it is rather dark, but I like it this way, because it will not fade as quick. Now, it is true that this dye stains a lot and everything it touches, but that also means it stays on longer. I was looking for the longest exposure time, mostly because I also wanted to deep condition my hair, which is why I used my favorite conditioner. My husband helped me do the whole application, (as he always does with all the hair dyes I want to put on) and it worked fantastically. I wrapped my head in plastic wrap and left it on for about 2 hours. When I washed it out on the kitchen zinc, almost no color came out at all. No stains on the zinc, only a few stains on the towel I used to cover myself when my husband was applying the dye. After this, I noticed my hair was so incredibly soft and smelled very nice. I went ahead and blow dried and then flat ironed my hair, I have to do this every time, because my hair is curly, thick and needs some taming. The final result exceeded my expectations, and I had very high expectations to begin with, so you can imagine how happy I was. This is the second wash after applying the dye, and it bled a lot (compared to almost no bleeding after the application), but it still looks as great and vivid as it did the first time. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking to get a beautiful vivid, long lasting, different hair color.

Great violet dye with amazing staying power!
I haven't found another physical dye as highly pigmented as Pravana Vivids. Seriously, a little goes a LONG way. The staying power of this product is also very impressive. Much longer than manic panic and other similar dyes. After doing my whole head with this undiluted, the color was super intense and very close to the violet that is squeezed directly from the tube, which is pretty dark. It will fade gradually with every wash though, so if you weren't aiming for a deep violet, you won't be stuck with it forever! It is important to note that I started out on very light blonde hair, with almost white ends, so the color really took. I have fairly thick hair that is a few inches past my shoulders and I used about 2/3 of the tube during my initial application. It took about 3 weeks to fade out to a purple I really like, so now I maintain it weekly by adding a couple tablespoons of this to a big glob of silicone free conditioner and I let it sit in my hair for a few hours before rinsing out with cool water. Works great and keeps color FRESH! For those of you who are into pastels, one tube of pravana will last you forever. The only reason I give this 4 instead of 5 stars is because it bleeds. A LOT. Yes, any dye that gets on your skin or nails will be there for days...maybe weeks? Yes, your nails will turn purple every time you wash your hair for a while, but I love the color so much, and the staying power is so incredible, that I still think it deserves a high rating. A regular cleaner with bleach will clean it off of hard surfaces easily. As for your nails? You'll just have to slap some polish on them. Just remember to wear gloves and cover EVERYTHING to minimize staining! It also helps to rinse hair away from your body during the initial application, because yes, it can stain your skin pretty badly when used undiluted. The bleeding does stop over time, especially if you are maintaining it with the diluted conditioner method. I still suggest getting a black pillow case, just in case, for anyone using vibrant colors. And definitely get a dark towel, or use one that you don't care about! Having stained grout and tubs is just a part of having highly pigmented color hair, no matter what brand, so don't let my review discourage you from trying this stuff. It's awesome.

Helps makes the “high maintenance” of having red hair manageable!!!
Best red hair dye I’ve ever used!!!! Not only is it the perfect red but MOST IMPORTANTLY it doesnt fade quickly like so many others. The picture posted with the black glove showing is after 4 or 5 washes. Little over a month since I dyed it. I thought maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me because I’ve always had to touch up my color after 3 weeks to a month. So I decided to touch it up like usual just to see if it really had faded and I was just imagining it hadn’t. The second picture is the touch up..... LOOKS ALMOST THE SAME! Just a little deeper red but still bright! Incredibly pleased with this Pravana product and very curious to see how many washes I can go before it actual starts to fade out! Along with not fading it also has not dried out my hair like the Ion red did or the L’Oreal on my ends. Lastly! A huge plus is it barely tints my bathtub with a pinkish color which actually may be just the left over mess from when I used Ion colors. Do NOT use Ion Red if you have a white shower..... never has any dye stained worst than that one. For anyone wondering, because I get questions all the time and wish someone would have broken it down when I first started. (***I am not a professional, just a lot of trail and error on my own hair***) FIRST TIME DYING: - Natural hair color: Dirty Blonde. - Length: Just hitting my shoulders. ***Even with already having blondish hair I choose to bleach my hair the first time because I knew I wanted the brightest red possible. Ive found the Wella Power Lightener works the best. - 3 Boxes of Pravana ChromaSilk Vivids Red with a 1/4 or half of the Pravana ChromaSilk Magenta mixed in. (This has prevented other products from fading into the orangy red and let it fade into a pinky red. Not sure this product would even fade into the orange but I rather be safe than sorry) Because this product doesn’t require any developer I let it sit in my hair over night before washing it out. (Better have some dark sheets or a towel on your pillow with a hair cap on lol it’s messy) THE TOUCH UP PROCESS: - Roots: 2 boxes of L’Oreal Highcolor HiLights Red , mixed with a little less than half a tube of the L’Oreal Magenta. I can get away with just using 1 box of Red and a squirt of Magenta but I rather lather it on my roots and have extra then have to ration it all the way through. I use any 30 developer and also have used 20 developer in the past but find the 30 brightens the red and matches the Pravana better. I leave in for 30 minutes like the box says then wash it out. ***I only use L’Oreal on my roots because it already has bleach in the product. I could just bleach my roots then use the Pravana all over but it’s tough enough dying your own hair. Trying to bleach the back of my head without overlapping the already dyed parts would be a nightmare. With the L’Oreal not being as harsh, I don’t have to worry about overlapping. - 3 boxes of Pravana ChromaSilk Vivids Red with 1/4 Magenta for the rest of my hair. I do slap this red on my roots as well just so I know I haven’t missed any spots. I haven’t found it darkens my already freshly dyed roots. Leave in over night then wash out. I was worried the two reds wouldn’t match but they are identical! Hopefully this is helpful and answers some questions!

Long Review..
I'm going to give this product 5 stars because it does do it's intended job and it does it well. I'm going to start this review by saying I am not a hairdresser just a young woman who loves to play with her hair as a hobby. I have probably had every color under the sun and have learned to maintain those colors on my own over the years. Once in a while I love to play around with the fun colors. After doing some research online I came across pravana so I decided to purchase. When I added the pravana to my hair I was about a level 9 hair color, almost a 10 which is pretty light. After the process my hair was very bright and vivid and the color was beautiful. Now here is where my problem is. After about 5 weeks the color had barely faded from my hair, which is fine for all you ladies and gents that are ready to rock the bright purple for a long time. **Just a side note as well, this stuff will bleed and bleed everytime you shower and will stain the walls and the floor of your shower! I had to bleach my shower mutiple times!** But I just wanted to have some fun for the summer and maybe strip this purple out after it had faded. Looked up ways to get this stuff out of my hair and so many different message boards of girls saying they have the same problem, they just can't get this stuff out. You can't bleach it, color strippers don't work, even after contacting pravana they recommend coloring a darker color over the vivids. So that's what I had to do. I now have a dark chocolate hair color because that's the only thing that would cover the purple. :( Pros: -Super long lasting color results -Beautiful color -Tube Lasts a long time -Inexpensive Cons: -Extremely hard to remove from hair -Bleeds with every shampoo -Will stain your bathtub -Will stain clothing if hair is wet Like I said, I gave it 5 stars because it does it's intended job maybe it does it too well? This product is perfect for any guy or gal that is planning to rock purple hair for a LONG time. For anyone looking to have fun for a few months don't purchase this item..

PRAVANA IS THE HOLY GRAIL OF HAIR COLOR!
If you're looking for a beautiful rich violet hair color LOOK NO FURTHER!!! I cannot even begin to explain how much I love Pravana! The color is vibrant and super pretty!! I have received so many compliments! Okay so the tube contains a fair amount of product and the great thing about it is that its ready to apply right out of the tube!! Another great thing is that you can add a small amount of conditioner and get more coverage without affecting your results much! The color is that POWERFUL! A small amount certainly goes a long way! Something else that i've noticed is that as the color begins to fade (which is not quickly I might add) it doesn't turn muddy or ugly it just keeps getting a lighter and more vibrant purple! *****THIS COLOR REQUIRES YOUR HAIR TO BE LIGHTENED TO A LEVEL 7 GOLDEN/ORANGE AT LEAST!****** Like I said this color works best on pre-lightened hair. If your hair is too dark the color won't turn out violet but rather a SUPER dark Plum! Almost black! (If you're scared of the damaging effects of pre lightening your hair with straight up bleach consider a bleach wash with a 20/30 developer.) Another thing that is definitely something to consider is that this color bleeds A LOT! Not even joking! The first week after coloring my hair it bled like crazy and STAINED EVERYTHING!!! Every time i washed my hair I had streaks of purple on my shower walls! I didn't really mind this however since it was easy to remove with some bleach and a good scrub, however I feel like people need to take this into consideration when using this color. Another more annoying issue and probably my only complaint was that days after having my hair dyed the purple stained my neck, ears, and clothing, and if I ran my hands through my hair my hands would turn purple whether my hair was wet or dry!! So makeup remover wipes and alcohol are must haves to clean your skin. Lastly I definitely think that you should use a sulfate-free shampoo & conditioner for color treated hair if you aren't already using one. This will help increase the already long life of the hair color. (Small tip! ***Add a small amount of the hair color to your conditioner to deposit color back in periodically just to freshen your color up every now and again!) Hope this helps! I ALSO UPLOADED A PICTURE AFTER JUST ONE DYE JOB! CHECK THE COLOR OUT! BTW Pravana Does backflips & frontflips around any other color like MANIC PANIC, PUNKY COLOR, STUDIO EFFECTS....etc...etc. Ive tried most of them and Pravana always comes up on top!
