Bakhita: From Slave to Saint

I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning about this saint. The details of what she suffered are shocking at times. She never gives up her faith or allow negative events to change her focus on the Lord. As for the dvd about her life, it is full of shortcomings that you don't become aware of until one has read this book.

Her life story touched me to the core!

VERY inspirational. I bought it for a woman from West Africa who is in an ICE prison because she came here openly to seek asylum. This book opened her heart .... even to those who attacked her in her own country; even to those who have put her in prison in our country. It has inspired in her a great feeling of CHRISTIAN FORGIVENESS and has helped to free her soul from past pain and the trials she still faces in her life.

I often reflect when I pray the Our Father, that what goes around comes around. You want to be forgiven, forgive. Bakhita lived a life of forgiveness.There is a theological reflection in the middle of the book on the meaning of her life that moved me deeply, that God is ever drawn to the places where life is the hardest. Her biography is the prelude that reflection.

St. Joseph8ne Bakhita is patron against human trafficking. This is a justice issue important to me. After having seen the movie, Bakhita: From slave to saint. I also wanted to obtain the book to read.

This book was excellent. The book portrays how Bakhita at a young age was stolen by a person who sold black people into slavery. By reading this book a person gets a picture of how brutely slaves were treated by most slave owners. The story ends very pleasantly with a kind slave owner, and how she came to know the catholic faith which she embraced and later became a nun.

This is the amazing story of an African / Sudanese woman who was kidnapped into slavery, brutally abused, and yet a soul of such gentleness and forgiveness. Being bought by Italians in Africa (after enduring horrible treatment at the hands of northern Sudanese and Turkish slave owners), it was through them that she learned of "Paron" - God... and it is there that she converted to Christianity... later entering a religious order of nuns - this story is amazing!

I am half way through reading this book (and I saw the movie) and this saint taught me to love those who despise & hate you. She continually turns the other cheek and if she could, would offer her abuser her coat and some food for their journey. This is a story of a precious soul that lives and breathes the gifts & fruits of the spirit. We should all strive to be like her.

I initially found out about St J Bakhita on Youtube, and decided to find out a wee bit more.A very moving and tragic story, of a lovely person. Like a lot of saints Bakhita went throught a lot of hardship.The author, gives a lot of history about Sudan at the time of Saint Bakhita, amoungst other things. Please note that this is not a 'new' account of Bakhita. Zanini does state that he has used books/documents that have been written and published about Bakhita before
