Good call, cheap price
It works good. Cover both holes on top and the one by the mouth piece for the deepest tone. It does sound realistic in the quiet woods.

Primos Hoot Flute Call
This works great when you get it down. Great horned owls have a distinct sound but they are not all the same. The directions on how to use the call are not complete. The directions say to use the call by using a "Who-who! Who-do-you-choose" when blowing into the call. This only works sometimes. Your best bet is to go to YouTube and learn from there. One call I found that works is a "Who! Whooo!" sound. Again, this is just occasionally. There is also a "Waaahhh!" call. It all depends on the time of year, with Great Horned owls mating from around late February through early to mid April. Don't merely go by the package instructions. Get into the woods and listen to them. The best time is early morning as it just starts to get light and again at sunset through early dark. I like this call because I can make the call do what I want. It may be covering one hole, both holes or even none at all. With a little practice and hearing the return call from owls, you'll have them coming close to your home in no time. I cannot say how it works for turkey hunting because I am not an avid turnkey hunter. I can say that this is fun and will let you see the beautiful owls in no time. Next up is building an owl house and putting it up. They are great to keep away rodents and snakes.

Super easy and perfect sound
Holy cow, I didn’t think it would work as easy as well, but I picked it up and started hooting right away. Watching a video on how to use it was super helpful but it’s the real deal. Look out turkeys here I come this weekend.

It will fool the owls
This is my first owl caller so I have nothing to compare it to. I do however have audio recordings of Great Horned Owls and Barred Owls. When comparing them to the sounds of the Primos Hoot Flute Call you quickly realize the flute isn't super realistic. Don't get me wrong, it sounds authentic enough to fool the owls but it sounds a bit plastic and hollow. Actually, it has a bit of a "flute" sound. For the Great Horned Owl you want a deeper sound so by positioning my lips differently I was able to damper the sound a bit so it doesn't sound like a musical instrument and more like a real owl. With a little practicing you'll be able to make decent owl calls. Hey for under $10 (including shipping) it does a pretty good job. It's certainly worth the money.

A Must-Have Locator Call That Flat-Out Works
I’ve been running the Primos Hoot Flute this season, and it’s earned a permanent spot in my vest. This thing does exactly what it’s supposed to—shock gobblers into giving up their location—and it does it consistently. The biggest standout is how realistic and sharp the tone is. It mimics both barred owl and great horned owl sounds, and the cadence comes through clean if you hit it right. Even if you’re not a pro caller, it’s forgiving and easy to learn. Within a few tries, you can get that classic “who cooks for you” rhythm dialed in, which is exactly what triggers those early morning gobbles. What I really like is how effective it is as a locator tool. When birds go quiet, this call can flip the switch. Owl calls are known for making turkeys “shock gobble,” and this one absolutely delivers—I’ve had birds fire back from a distance when nothing else was working. Build quality is solid too. It’s lightweight, compact, and tough enough to handle being tossed around in your vest. No moving parts, no nonsense—just grab it and go. It’s also loud enough to reach out across ridges but still controllable if you’re working closer birds. What stood out: * Realistic tone that actually gets responses * Easy to use, even if you’re new to owl calls * Great for locating birds when they’re not talking * Durable and lightweight—perfect for run-and-gun setups If you turkey hunt seriously, this isn’t optional—it’s a tool you should have. When the woods go dead quiet, this call gives you a way to strike a bird and make a move.
