what is the active ingredient in this product?

Elbow grease...lol...the silica is what removes the minor scratches by its abrasive/polishing action, what removes stains is in question??? Detergents what ever ones those be, maybe the same thing that is in Techron...anyway, I am a quantum mechanic not an organic chemist but highly recommend wearing gloves and not breathing too many fumes. The Le Creuset pan cleaner works pretty well too for cleaning the Kohler sinks, maybe both products come from the same fountain....

Does it work on porcelain sinks?

I use the Cast Iron sink cleaner and it iw great but I would not use it on porcelain. I believe there is a procelain cleaner. I think the cast iron would be to abrasive.

I have a Kohler bright yellow cast iron tub. A mold encapsulant spray had been applied and nothing I tried worked to remove it. Tougher than any paint. Solvents, waxes, rubbing compounds. Used this and with some work it all came off. I highly recommend this product so yes, it will remove paint from your cast iron.
