Mom loves it. We love it.
After my dad passed, my mom wanted to stay in her house but has some health problems and is also a fall risk, so we knew we needed SOMETHING for her to wear so she could get help if she needed it. We started researching and found a dizzying number of solutions, most requiring a monthly subscription fee that connects you to a call center. Since mom is on a fixed income, we didn't want to burden her with a monthly fee so we focused more on our options that wouldn't require a monthly fee. Out of all the options we found, we chose this one for a variety of reasons. First, we liked the fact that we could program it with a call sequence. If mom holds down the red button for two seconds it will first dial my sister. If she doesn't answer live, it then calls me. If I don't answer, it will try her neighbor across the street. And finally, if she can't reach any of us, it calls 911. When the call is answered it plays a pre-recorded message letting the answerer know that this is a distress call and then lets them talk to my mother. We loved the fact that it doesn't immediately go right to 911, which can avoid needless emergency calls if she accidentally triggers it. (But you DO have to hold the button down for 2 seconds to activate it, which helps avoid "misfires" from momentary accidental button presses.) The second feature we love is that the pendant has both a microphone and speaker built into it. Some similar units have a smaller pendant but don't have a mic and speaker in it. They rely on a base unit that sits somewhere in the house and acts as a speaker phone. If the base was in the kitchen and my mother fell in the bedroom, the bathroom, or the sun porch, it would be impractical for her to yell loud enough for the base unit to hear her and she would not be able to hear the answerer speaking back to her. So the mic and speaker inside the pendant work great (and in tests we did the call quality is outstanding). The rechargeable battery lasts about 30 days and it comes with a spare battery inside the base unit that will always be charged. The pendant will notify her when the battery is getting low, and when it does that, she just swaps the two batteries, putting the spent battery in the base unit to charge, and moving the charged battery from the base unit to the pendant. We rehearsed it all with her and she was able to do it no problem. Note that this unit DOES require you to have a home phone (not a cell phone) for it to tap into. In a sense, it acts as a "smart cordless phone" on your existing home line. However, my mother DID recently switch from a traditional wired phone to an internet-based voice-over-IP (VOIP) internet-based phone and it works just fine with the VOIP line. So if your loved one has internet and no home phone, you could very inexpensively get them a VOIP phone line to tie this to. Overall we are very satisfied with this unit. It's brought us all a lot of peace of mind. We thoroughly tested it and were able to verify that 911 could see her exact home address when it calls. Mom wears the pendant religiously, even placing it outside the shower on the floor when she showers (we talked through various scenarios such as shower falls, etc.). It's brought us a lot of peace of mind for a modest one-time investement.

See The Unit In Action Starring "My Mom"
This is a video I made of my mom using the unit. When we were making the decision whether or not to purchase it, I really could have used a video like this one so I could HEAR how it works. A lot of older people are hard of hearing, so the clarity and loudness of the unit was a big factor we wanted to know, that was not addressed by other reviews. This is very easy to install and program. REASON TO BUY: I can honestly say, I'm very pleased with the performance and ease of use of the Freedom Alert product. My dear mom is elderly and lives alone. I'm close by, and this unit means peace of mind for her and our family. Like mom pointed out, if she falls, or has a problem, she'd rather call family to come over first. If 911 is called (it is automatically if she can't reach the four people we programmed in), they would have to break down the door to get in. HOW WE PROGRAMMED IT: Just for an idea: we programmed in our cell number, our office, another relative, then mom's next door neighbor (with permission of course). The machine calls each number in succession, if it gets a busy signal, or voice mail, it continues to the next number until it exhausts all possibilities, before calling 911. EXPANDABLE: The beauty of this product, is that you can expand it and add on other pendants, so that you can cover several people in one home. HOW FAR AWAY IT WORKS: I tested the unit out in the yard, in the bathrooms, and in each room of mom's 4 bedroom house. It even works across the street. You know how sometimes your cell phone doesn't work in some rooms? This is not like that - it works everywhere equally well. BATTERY: A lot of reviews complain about the battery. We've used it about a month. The battery needs to be put on the charger every few days (around once a week or so). It comes with one battery in the pendant, and one for the charger, so you always have a working unit. And after a year or so of constant use, any battery needs to be replaced, so plan on buying one from the internet. (Amazon comes to mind!) WEIGHT: It must weigh something, but it's so lightweight that it's not a factor. Mom puts it in her pocket, but it comes with a clip for belts, the neck, and wrist. SUMMATION: I'm going to purchase another unit for another relative in another home soon. This product is well worth the money for safety and peace of mind. UPDATE: The machine is easily transferable. Mom passed away after a brief illness, and I took the machine over to my brother in laws. I installed it, and reprogrammed it with new phone numbers in about 5 minutes. I kept the book and the little box, so that helped with the process.

Works and is useful for my invalid mother. One problem with reception.
We got this quickly, and it was not hard to set up. However, at first we could not get it to work when we programmed it to call our cell phones. It would just call my cell, sound like it was ringing but not actually make the phone ring, and skip to the next cell, then do the same thing. We finally figured out it was because our phones don't have great reception out here in the woods. We can get phone calls on them, but they have weak reception, so calls made by the LogicMark would not work. But we discovered when we are away from home, where the reception is good (and that is when we need the phones to ring if she calls because we are not with her), the system works. It also calls a house phone of another relative with no problems. So I am happy with it, because I didn't want a system attached to a company. So we feel much better when we have to be gone a few hours, and she can call us with the button if she has an emergency. I am VERY happy we can finally use it!

Works great! Bought it for a loved one.
Bought this for my mother. It definitely provides a piece of mind. Set up was super easy and it we were even able to test it out which increased our confidence. Loved that there is no monthly charge.

peace of mind
We purchased this for our 90 year old mother for Christmas. The set up was easy to the landline, directions were clear. So far we have only tried to reach out to the first person on the rotation list. There was a hesitation between the ring time and the automated voice stating there was an emergency. We plan to let it go through the 4 rotating entries to assure it will call all of us in the near future before going to 911. Mom was able to hear me clearly and I was able to hear and understand her the same as if she were talking on a regular phone. I do wish it were waterproof, so she can wear it in the shower. The best feature is it is a one time purchase with NO monthly fee. Price is reasonable, we bought it on Cyber Monday and saved $100. The device reaches the family members, but also has the back-up of 911. (I will update once we try the calling rotation and distance, and determine the battery life.)

Poor Design On Pendant Battery Charger (LogicMark's Intentional Design Choice)
I was having problems with low battery warnings on the pendant and eventually bought replacement batteries for it from a third party, batteries that met the spec listed in the users manual. Little did I know that LogicMark is playing a game to force you to buy batteries from them directly and not from a third party. Kind of like the ink jet printer companies with the ink cartridges. As it turns out, there was nothing wrong with the original batteries, and really nothing wrong with the third party replacement batteries I got. The battery charger in the base unit does not electrically contact the negative side of the battery with the spring as virtually all other chargers do. It contacts the battery from the SIDE of that end of the battery. The LogicMark batteries are designed with an exposed metal side contact at the negative end to meet with the side contact in the charger. The problem is this contact is not reliable and if the battery is not firmly pushed down in the slot, contact is not made and the battery never charges. To make matters worse, third party batteries do not have the exposed metal contact area on the side of the battery. So they don't work no matter how firmly placed in the charger. I found this out by contacting LogicMark customer support. The tech said I must absolutely use LogicMark batteries, even though the users manual didn't say such and in fact gives specs for replacement batteries. I asked to speak with a supervisor and got the real story about the side contact, though they didn't say they did it to prevent third party battery use. I'm certain that is the reason behind the design though. A very poor design in any case, because even their batteries do not reliably charge. The supervisor told me I could trim some of the outer plastic coating off the third party battery to establish a contact area for the negative side. This worked like a charm, but the battery still has to be very firmly placed in the charger. Though I got the problem fixed, I am still infuriated by LogicMarks intentionally bad design aimed at preventing third party battery use. The design even causes major issues (as seen in other reviews) even with LogicMark's own batteries. On another note, there is also a problem using the device on phone lines that are not the good old fashioned telephone company copper wires to your house. I have a Verizon Home Connect (or whatever it's called) to provide phone lines in my house. This is one of those devices that uses Verizon's cell network to provide wired phone lines in the house. The problem is the FreedomAlert improperly detects the remote phone being answered immediately after it dials the last digit. Apparently the Verizon unit puts some noise on the line that the FreedomAlert detects as an answer. I put several pauses after the telephone numbers to get the FreedomAlert to not start looking for the call to be answered until a few seconds after the last actual digit has been dialed. That seems to cure that issue. The device is a great device, but does have some significant issues if you are not technically inclined. Sad, because the battery issue is by LogicMark's choice.

Very easy to setup
Very easy to setup, 95% reliable. It came with a special battery, too prolong the life of the battery, don't leave it in the charger all the time. Takes it out when it is fully charge.

Faulty
Batteries were bad and unit called 911 on it's own. Refund pending. Seller was good to deal with. Not his fault. All good so far. ..... UPDATE: Unit was sent back and tracking shows it in their post office since Dec 2021. It is now Feb 25 2022. I'm getting the run around, no refund yet. Unit was calling 911 when it shouldn't. The batteries were also no good. I'm retired and this is a lot of money. ..... BEWARE!
